How do I leave a shared Dropbox folder?
My friend invited me to share a 3gb folder she had. I accepted. Now I want to leave the folder and cant. I followed the advice from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZoTpNkvPCI
The problem is that...
- 7 years agoHey Padidto5,To remove yourself from the shared folder while you’re a member, try doing so from the website:
- Sign in to the website.
- Click Files.
- Navigate to the shared folder you want to permanently remove from your Dropbox account.
- Select the Share button that should appear next to the folder when you hover over it.
- Find your name under the list of emails.
- Click on the Can view/Can edit that’s next to your name.
- Select Remove my access.
If you’re not seeing this option or you’re still having trouble with this, let me know.

3 years agoHey Amanda! I checked your screenshots, but when looking at the one from your desktop app, it’s not really clear what’s the small red syncing icon next to this folder. Is it possible to send one more that’s a bit zoomed in?
Also, can you clarify what’s the current syncing status of your Dropbox app? You can see this by hovering over the small Dropbox icon in your menu bar (close to your clock settings at the top).

3 years agoThis appears to be a locked folder, and not a shared folder. Could you first quit the Dropbox desktop application from the menu bar, then right click this folder and choose Get Info to see if you can remove the lock from the folder.
After that, you can delete it or move it out of the Dropbox folder, and then restart the app.

Hi Jay,
I've tried this and it doesn't work. I've also had someone look at it and he says it shows I don't have permission. Please see screenshots attached.

Hey Amanda Lamb - sorry to jump in here, but can you clarify if you have admin privileges on the profile you're using on your computer and if you've tried adjusting your permissions?

Hi Walter,
Yes, it's my laptop and I have admin rights. As you can see from the pics though, the folder is created on Dropbox - not by me.

Hi again, Amanda!
If syncing is still paused on your Dropbox app, please resume and try these steps to fix hardlinks/permissions. After that, please give some time to the app till it’s up to date.
Are you able to unlock or delete this folder now?
If none of this works, click on the small Dropbox icon in your menu bar at the top, and go to your “Sync history”. Are there any sync errors there?

Hi Nancy, the syncing is done but I am still unable to delete or unlock the folder. There is no sync error.
