11 months agoAre you using the Dropbox Backup feature by any chance L_?
A screenshot of what's troubling you would also help, so feel free to send us one in your next response.

The center solid filled green ticks turned into something else before I thought to screenshot them. Now I have square ones. I don't remember seeing these on the desktop before. But maybe they were there. I don't know if the backup thing is happening, but Desktop is not inside Dropbox, so while I have Dropbox being normal as for many years, I don't know why it would scope outside of Dropbox. -- And to make things stranger, as I was typing the above, all the Desktop icon mini icons just disappeared.
I see now the last stable version is 215. I'm seeing how that goes now.
And geez, look what's back. Center solid filled green ticks.
Now look at them.

Are these files inside your Dropbox folder L_?
Also, what is the app's exact status as shown in your system tray? Is it 'up to date' or still syncing perhaps?
As for the syncing icons, you can have a look at this Help Center article for more information.

No. "Desktop is not inside Dropbox." It might be OneDrive since Desktop is there: 'C:\Users\L_\OneDrive\Desktop'
Dropbox status is Up to Date.
And after I turned off the Beta Test, I still have, actually now a different beta version 216.3.4345. 😫 - L_11 months agoNew member | Level 1
I did what 'psychomaniac189' last said, in order, with the waiting. I now have 215.4.7202 and it's staying.
When I installed 215.4.7202 this time, my Desktop icons got the same mini icons, flashing for a while, then the ending ones, green tick on white, and an icon that's not Dropbox's, the blue arrow, which you can see in my image in my previous reply.
But now there's different ones:
They look like cardboard boxes.
Whether it's OnePath or not, it's strange that installing Dropbox is upsetting the mini icons on my Desktop icons, which as you should know, Desktop path is 'C:\Users\USER\OneDrive\Desktop' so meh.
I'm at least glad to have a good Dropbox again. Early Access setting should be off by default, like with other great products.

No.
I never wanted to use OneDrive, but it came in handy when I changed computers and all my Documents came over magically, VS Templates and a bunch of game stuff that gets saved.
I've done literally nothing with OneDrive, so this is all just automatic stuff.
But, I've just noticed now with the stable version of Dropbox, in Dropbox, I have the same carboard boxes, and see the path is 'C:\Users\USER\Dropbox', no OnePath. Strange.
The beta version eliminated all cardboard boxes, tho I didn't notice them in earlier versions.
You could ultimately just tell me none of this matters and not to worry. I just thought you'd have some insight.

Now some of the Dropbox cardboard boxes have turned into solid green filled ticks.

Dropbox is not in the downline of OneDrive, so why would OneDrive affect it?
- L_11 months agoNew member | Level 1
Yes, I noticed that on the Desktop icons when I uninstalled and installed Dropbox.
Are you saying OneDrive also affects the ones inside Dropbox even though Dropbox is not in the OneDrive directory?
My observation would say Yes but it's interesting to know what you know.

That's correct, the sync icons are affected by other cloud platforms which have their own sync icons.
When those apps are no longer running, then the icons aren't active any more.
