I can't restrict others from sharing my link, why not?

I don't like that when I send a link to someone, they can then share it. I've looked and researched and I cannot find a way to turn this off. I want to be able to send the link to someone, but then them Not be able to share that link with anyone else. I visited the link itself from a private browser to see what it looked like on the other end, and I saw an option in the top right corner to "share link." I do not want the person I send my link to, to be able to share it. I can't find a way to turn this off. Why is this not an option???? Thanks

Hi raeray_d, thanks for messaging the Community!

This is the same with sending a URL to anyone on the internet, as the shared link is public, anyone can access it provided they know the exact link. You could add a password to the link, though again, there's nothing to stop that user from sharing the password to others.

Even if you were to share a file to someone's account directly, they could technically still share it from their own account, provided that they have the file.

If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.

Thank you for explaining that Jay. Why can Dropbox not just get rid of the "Share" button at the top right of the screen? When someone clicks on the link and arrives at the Dropbox web page to view the doc(s)/file(s) there is a "Share" option. All someone has to do is click it and the link is copied. Why would Dropbox not be able to get rid of that button? If someone wants to go the extra mile and copy and paste it into their browser I understand there's not much that can be done. However, removing a button from a web page is not difficult to do. Why can that not be an option? Thanks again Jay.

Currently, there isn't an option to remove the Share button. We appreciate the feedback on this matter.
