I uploaded a folder from my desktop to Dropbox, but I'm not seeing it on the website

Hi,

I uploaded the folder, containing all the folders of my website, from my desktop into Dropbox.

Next I tried two things:

  • I created a new folder, oploaded it to the the folder of my site on my desktop, checked the folder in Dropbox: the folder was not synchronised;
  • - I created a new folder, uploaded it to Dropbox, into the folder of my website, checked the folder on my desktop: the folder was not synchronised.

I would prefer that the first approach would work: work on my desktop, after I have finished the same folder in Dropbox it would synchronise.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you have the Dropbox desktop application installed on your computer, then you have a local Dropbox folder. On a PC, the default location would be in your user profile. For instance ...

    C:\Users\[your username]\Dropbox

Dropbox will only sync the files and folders placed in this folder. If you manually uploaded a folder from your Desktop to the Dropbox website, that was a one-time copy and won't continue to sync with the folder on your Desktop.

The intention of Dropbox is that you move your files into the local Dropbox folder and work on them there. That way any changes you make within the folder will sync automatically.

I would compare the content of that folder to the one located in the local Dropbox folder. If they're the same, then you don't need it anymore and you should use the one in Dropbox.

    Hi all,

Since the problem has not changed, could some one pick this item up and help me resolve it. Yesterday I have added a folder to the container folder on my PC, nothing changed however in Dropbox.

The container folder is named: pietclijsen1311.nl. In the first line of subfolders the '@' is used. Wonder if this could be the problem.

It's possible. Dropbox cautions against using special characters or periods in file and folder names.

This container folder is located within the Dropbox folder on your local drive, correct? It's not just a folder on your Desktop?

The original container folder is on my desktop, but I have uploaded it to Dropbox some time ago. Two days ago I have added a folder to the container folder on my desktop but it doesn't6 show in Dropbox.

I checked just now and it is not showing on my i-Phone and i-Pad either.

    Thanks for your help.

That's not how Dropbox works. Dropbox can only sync the files and folders that are located in your local Dropbox folder. If you have a folder on your Desktop it won't sync with Dropbox, even if you uploaded it. An upload to Dropbox is a one-time action.

You should move your container folder into your local Dropbox folder and work on it there. Any changes made to the folder in your local Dropbox folder will be synced with your account online.

On the desktop of my PC I do not have a Dropbox folder.

In my taskbar there is one. Are you saying I have to open that one, next open the container folder and make my changes in that folder. So I do not need the container folder that is sitting on my desktop anymore?
