Syncing icons on the files in the Dropbox folder have changed
Hello
The Finder Extension Icons indicating whether a file or folder is Online Only or Available Offline are showing up in my Finder, however, the statuses are incorrect. For instance a folder that contains files that are both Online Only files and Available Offline files is showing a cloud icon, when it should be showing a white circle with a green checkmark and green outline. I think the Finder Extension is confused. Is there a way to reset the Finder Extension so the icons show correctly without changing the Online Only or Available Offline settings that I have for my files/folders? I do not want to change the statuses of my files/folders, I just want the icons to indicate the statuses correctly. Thank you.

What was the rational behind changing the meaning of the Green Tick and White Tick in the File Explorer and Finder? Nobody cares if a file was downloaded automatically or manually, all the care about is whether it is local or online-only. This new change makes it very difficult to see where files are downloaded locally and thus make it difficult to find data to free up computer space, as folders which used to show a White Tick have a cloud badge instead.

Is it just me, or is there no option to VOTE? Seems to me this thread type changed from "Dropbox-ideas" to "Ask the community" where there is no VOTE option. I remember voting for this change earlier, now I came back to copy the link and share it with my colleagues but it's different.
Link people post so others would go and vote:

Mantas212 Yeah, it looks like they redirected the Idea page to the Community post. Not sure what that means.
DropBox really needs to put out a statement explaining why this icon change was done and what they can do to remedy it.
For what it's worth the DropBox CEO is on Twitter - Drew Houston @drewhouston. Maybe if enough people complain directly to him he'll get the picture.

As posted earlier in one of these forums, I'm in the process of moving my content off dropbox before my dropbox subscription renews next month. (A very slow process, but I'm switching to sync and it seems to work ok, altho it has its own quirks. But it runs better in a lot of ways.)
In the process, I've discovered that dropbox seems to have changed how the icons are working. At least, my version is now behaving differently yet again.
Now folders have a green check for synced and available locally, a cloud for all files in the cloud, and NOTHING for folders with a mix of cloud and local files. It's a bit confusing, because my first thought is "hasn't that folder synced yet?" Has anyone else seen this?
(It makes me certain that no one in charge at dropbox is actually a heavy user of their program!)

“Hi Michael,
Thank you for contacting Dropbox. My name is Sheldon. I am a specialist from the Advanced support team at Dropbox, and I'll be helping you today.
From my understanding, you are enquiring into the recent sync icon changes. I will be happy to look into this for you.
The changes were made in an attempt to give a consistent experience for users across Mac and Windows.
These decisions are made based on a number of factors and on a company level and as such I am unable to provide a more in depth explanation.
However I will certainly pass on the feedback you have provided regarding these changes, and I apologies that it has not been a positive experience for you.
If you need any further assistance, please let me know.
Regards,
Sheldon

I’m convinced Apple or Google or Microsoft had leverage / paid them out to weaken their product, in favour of their services. - Mantas2124 years agoHelpful | Level 6
"The changes were made in an attempt to give a consistent experience..."
They are not wrong, after these changes Dropbox experience has been consistently bad.

No one from the support department has been able or will be able to explain the reason for this downgrade (there isn't a "proper" reason, just some generic answers). Btw, if the service provided is getting worse... shouldn't the prices for its users decrease accordingly (instead of the opposite)?
