How can a backup be completely deleted to free up my space?

A 3 TB drive started backing up (either I clicked the wrong option, or it just started doing it). I cancelled it once I realised - but how I now completely delete the 'backup' from my space? It's...

    Thanks for the reply - I'd already seen all these help pages.
    The answer's not here - it's actually done through
    https://www.dropbox.com/backup/all
    where all Backups can be seen / deleted etc.

You should be able to delete your external drive backup, by following the steps here (scroll down for the external backup steps).
