I only have 2 shared folders that combine for 14.4 MB.
I am sharing folders with my Professor which can lead to the problem. My Dropbox is listed as using 360 mb from properties.
My only thought is that my Professor is somehow using the storage that I have.

If you are in a shared folder then yes, this uses quota.
It also stops syncing when you go over quota, so, if you only see 14.4mb (as in this example), what's happened is he's suddenly added lots more, which has knocked you over quota, and so it's not syncing anymore to your account.
I assume you checked the backups page as well as said?
