Removing a shared folder from my account
How can I remove a folder that was shared with me? without asking the sharer to remove it for me. I wanted to increase my storage since it's almost full due to the shared files. hope someone can help me with this
- If you delete a folder inside the shared folder itself, then it would be deleted for all members of the shared folder.
The folder could then be recovered from the deleted files page within 30 days of the deletion.

Hi Kay11R, thanks for messaging the Community.
You can delete the shared folder from your account by following these steps.
It's also possible to permanently remove your access to the folder if you wish.

Hi Jay, thank you for the reply.
If I temporarily remove/delete one folder within the shared folder, how can I return it? and will it affect other users that have access to the file?
The shared folder consists of different folders and there are 4 members in that.

Hi everyone, I am sure this is asked regularly but I can't find an answer to my scenario when Googling, and Dropox doesn't seem to want me to talk to a human at their end.
I have an account I use occasionally to do some work for someone else.
They share folders with me, full of lots of videos and other large files - and needless to say my account is out of space.
I don't need access to most of these folders anymore - so I want to stop the share with me, to free up my account. I don't own the folders or files.
Obviously I don't want to delete the folders/files for everyone, just remove them from my account.
I did find some instructions online that said to go to the Share button and there should be an X beside my name - but I don't see anything that looks like that. The Share drop down box only has 'share with Dropbox' or 'send a copy' as options. If I click the wee account circle that shows the folders/files are shared with me, it just pops up with my email but no options to disconnect or similar.
I am on a Basic plan and using a Mac (Safari and Firefox).
I am sure this is super simple, but I can't work it out - so any advice welcome. Thanks!

Hi shaross, happy Monday!
In order for you to remove your access from the shared folders, you'd need to follow these steps. Want to give this a go, and let me know if you have any questions?
Thank you!

Hi, I am using a Dell laptop and am having similar issues - when I click the share button I cannot see anyone's email addresses and have no option to click into anything. It just tells me that 4 people can edit but no way to see who they are or amend them. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi there, I am experiencing the same issue and can't seem to find the steps you list either. How do I remove myself from a shared folder? Thanks!

Hey Caitlinml, thanks for the nudge here.
The steps to remove your access from a shared folder can be found here.
I hope this helps!

I am having the same issue. People keep posting the same generic instructions to remove oneself from a shared folder, but it is not working for me. When I go to the folder sharing permissions, I can remove everyone else from the folder but there is no option to remove myself. There simply isn't a dropdown menu next to my own name. I can go to "delete," but it only gives me the option to actually delete it for everyone which I obviously do not want to do. (I have deleted another shared folder from my account and a popup clearly said that others would still have access to it. That is not happening in this case).
