Apple Silicon (M1) Desktop Sync Compatibility

I was an early adopter of Dropbox and generally like the service. I have a MacBook Pro on order, and once the new iMacs and Mac Pros are out all my Apple devices will run on M1 (ARM) hardware.

I assume Dropbox will understand the urgent need to create a native ARM version. Otherwise, there's no choice for the majority of us to switch to one of the alternatives.

What does ”H1” mean? 

I have a corporate account with 35 users.  The lack of native Mac support is a huge issue for me and one that would make me seriously considering moving to another service.  

It's very short sighted to not support as many platforms as you can.  That's so obviously the future of computing and the whole reason the Cloud exists to begin with. People need to access their data through various means and devices.  It's mind boggling that you haven't implemented this already.  Do you even know what your business is?

The goal should be Dropbox on every platform, as silly as it may seem today.  It won't be long that I want to view files from my TV app, my car, my watch, etc...  I might even want to access files from my headphones... maybe I want Dropbox to read a document to me. "Siri, read Document XYZ."

If you're asking yourself what's the business case for this, you're asking the wrong question.  This is your business.

This is absurd and embarrassing for Dropbox. You know what I don't want? Collaboration features in my file-syncing app. You know what I do want? Basic attention to compatibility in my file-syncing app.

Drew Houston's Tweet is damage control. If M1 support was a priority for Dropbox, it would already exist. Saying "first half of 2022" means "another 8 months, maybe." 

People will ditch Dropbox over this, and they won't switch BACK. There was a time Dropbox was novel, but now, as Jobs correctly noted, sync is a feature, not a product.

segeholm, "H1" means "we have not made this a priority, and the first estimate for completion is June of 2022."

I'm assuming you've been in software long enough to understand just how accurate such an estimate is likely to be. 

Basically, "H1" in this context means "it's not coming any time soon."

This is for sure a need! Dropbox is the best syncing client and native support for the best operating system is a must-have.

It's absurd they haven't implemented this yet. Stupid.

Ignore the tweet, keep upvoting and commenting - the Tweet says H1 2022, if they stick enough product teams on it they should deliver it a lot quicker than that.  They're so far behind the curve and forgetting the customers in their product roadmaps and delivery teams it's stupid.

H1 2022 is a 6 month period - 12-18 months after Apple announced the M1, they need to be a lot more specific in their roadmap and timing to keep customers (including me).
