Dropbox support for macOS 12.3
So I'm referring to https://help.dropbox.com/installs-integrations/desktop/macos-12-monterey-support
Does this mean it will be 100% safe to upgrade to macOS 12.3 as long as I keep Smart sync to Loc...
You can never ever say its 100% safe - simply because you'd be using a Beta OS and also a Beta version of Dropbox. However, it should work well, but, be cautious of the fact it is beta at all levels.
I know previously at last minute notice Apple have changed how stuff worked in beta versions meaning stuff which used to work no longer did when updated to the next release so thats also something to be aware of.

4 years agoHi all - thanks for reaching out.
I just wanted to mention that we’re actively working on full support for macOS 12.3
In the meantime, you’ll still be able to open Dropbox files by double-clicking them in Finder.
To make an online-only file available to open in third-party applications, use the following steps :
1. From Finder, Right-click(or control-click) the file you wish to open.
2. Select “Make available offline”
You should now be able to open your files without issue.
You can find more details in the dedicated Help Center article.
I hope this helps!

Having purchased an M1 iMac a few months ago, I opted in to automatically receive Dropbox Apple Silicon beta updates.
I am currently on version 145.2.3154. Could it be this beta is already MacOS 12.3 compatible?
- DBgreen14 years agoHelpful | Level 6
I've had TWO beta updates since that last post. Now up to 146.2.9.
So we must be getting close to D-Day!

Another week passes and not so much as a drop of new information.
Maybe we can speed things up if we all band together and get the poor DB team a brand spanking new Mac Studio Ultra?

Kinda worrying to see the lack of progress and communication, especially knowing that this change in MacOS was announced at least a year or two ago, so it's not like Dropbox was caught by surprise and had to scramble to fix it at the last minute.
- YeaItsJosh4 years agoHelpful | Level 6I don't know why this is marked as solved. We still don't have a proper client for Mac OS 12.3. Am I missing something?
- DBgreen14 years agoHelpful | Level 6
You're right, YJ, sadly nothing has been solved. And you are missing nothing at all. But perhaps it's good you're here to remind them.
They seem to have been distracted by their new 'Product Updates'. Who knows which version of MacOS they will run on.
Why they can't be bothered to keep us in the loop is beyond me.
- YeaItsJosh4 years agoHelpful | Level 6Personally, I don't like that that our users need to modify their behavior in order to access files stored in Dropbox. We pay a lot of money for this service. To be offered a beta while competitors have fully embraced the changes from Apple is beyond concerning.

Just to let everybody know that I finally decided to upgrade my M1 iMac to MacOS 12.3.1 and the latest Dropbox beta v147.2.3505 seems to be syncing fine.
No announcements of system extension files being disabled when my updated Mac first booted up, so clearly the DB team have succeeded in achieving the necessary changes, at least in their beta versions.
Relief that Dropbox has finally caught up but why on earth, after all this time, were we not informed by the moderator of this forum?
- YeaItsJosh4 years agoHelpful | Level 6It's still a beta. They aren't done and it isn't ready. There should be a formal announcement when Mac OS 12.3 support is out of beta.

Hello Dropbox team. I'm getting prompts from Apple to go to macOS 12.3 which so far I have not accepted. Seems like the time is here for some communication from you regarding compatibility. I love your product but you've got to stay ahead of things like this. Kindly, please advise.

Hi DeepLightnin, hope you’re doing well!
You can check this link for more details on how Dropbox works with macOS 12.3.
If you have any questions though, I’m here for you.
- YeaItsJosh4 years agoHelpful | Level 6Hi Nancy. So a private beta that still doesn't allow users to open online files from third-party apps is what you are suggesting we use? We are halfway through April. What is the holdup? Perhaps someone could call Microsoft and ask how they got OneDrive to work with 12.3 so easily.

We are already on 12.3.1 and still no release…

Really sad how long this is taking, and how poorly Dropbox is about communicating about this.
- andrewmatoxy4 years agoHelpful | Level 6
At this point Mac OS 13 is going to come out before Dropbox fully supports Mac OS 12.
- DBASQL4 years agoExplorer | Level 4
Centrestack made this change 8 months ago prior to the release of the 12.3 update. They saw the release notes and beta testing and took action right away. You are telling us with the resources that DB has at their disposal this can't get done it a reasonable time frame?
- YeaItsJosh4 years agoHelpful | Level 6Seriously. Dropbox has market cap of over $8 billion, but can't keep their software up to date.
I have to wonder if Apple wants access to their code. Maybe there's something going on behind the scenes that Dropbox isn't willing to give in to. Who knows? - misiektoja4 years agoHelpful | Level 6
Well, the way Dropbox handled it I decided to move to OneDrive. I'm actually surprised how good piece of SW it is. I used it like 3 years ago and did not like many things, but right now it is different app. And you get 2TB of storage for every family member in Office365 subscription. So no reason for me to extend Dropbox, especially as they start to focus on many unneeded features (just like Evernote did). Apparently they forgot about their core business and they do not care about their own customers. Maybe once we vote with our wallets they change something (or go bankrupt).
- YeaItsJosh4 years agoHelpful | Level 6For a family, OneDrive makes a lot of sense. The problem we face as a business is the lack of team folders via OneDrive without going into SharePoint hell.
- Firelock4 years agoHelpful | Level 6
We tried to move our global creative teams files to OneDrive back in 2020 when the pandemic hit and we had to work remotely. OneDrive for Business is actually a front for SharePoint Online, where OneDrive acts as a sync engine. In the tests we conducted it was 6-10x slower than Dropbox when syncing large volumes of files and OneDrive’s collaborative feature set is at least 10 years out-of-date. For individual users OneDrive is not bad. For teams OneDrive for Business is a nightmare.
