I can't install Dropbox on Fedora 40

Hello,

I'm running Fedora 40 and cannot install Dropbox on my computer. After downloading the .rpm file from the Dropbox download page, it will run through the installation and daemon install process, give me a Dropbox icon in my apps but this will not activate anything after attempting to launch the program.

I have no antivirus, firewall is not an issue and I have only one device.

It used to work up until a short while ago but is now completely inaccessible. I've seen all the suggested possible solutions but none of them solves the issue. Is Dropbox even worth the trouble these days? It seems not but I don't give up easily.

Fresh suggestions welcome. Thank you.

Hey philk949, I just checked and it seems that you never replied back to the email hence it was marked as solved.

    Hi @philk949,

Did you solve this issue? I have the exact same problem. Dropbox working (synchronising), but I haven't been able to launch the app, when I click the Dropbox app icon, nothing happens.

    Hi feub,

Nothing I tried would resolve the issue until I changed ISPs. With a better connection I now have Dropbox installed and working.

    Thank you for replying philk949

Strange that changing ISP solved the issue... Glad it is working for you. I'm still investigating

Hey feub, sorry to see that you're having an issue.

It's a different issue than the OP, but let's see what we can find.

If you haven't already, can you restart both your computer and the Dropbox app, to see if that helps?

If not, you can try to do an uninstall/reinstall as a first step and go from there.

    Hi Hannah ,

    Thank you for the reply.

Yes I tried restarting both the computer and Dropbox. And I tried 2 types of installations: the one on the rpmfusion-nonfree repo and the RPM downloaded from the official Dropbox website. Same result, Dropbox works, but impossible to get its graphical interface, so no settings, nothing available...

Hi feub, are you able to see the Dropbox icon in the menu bar at all on your device?

    Hi Jay

Yes after installing "AppIndicator and KStatusNotifierItem" extension, but I can't do anything with that icon, it opens nothing

Do you have any proxy, VPN, firewall, security software, or even ISP/router settings that could be restricting traffic to the following Dropbox domains?
