I lost my Dropbox folder after my hard drive crashed. What can I do to get it back?

Recently my hard drive crashed and I lost my Dropbox folder on my desktop.  I can still log into my Dropbox account, but don't have access to the folder on my desktop that mirrors what I have on Dropbox.  How do I get it back so I can add files to my Dropbox account?  It was suggested that I download the Dropbox app for desktop but was told I was trying to add another version of the app that wasn't allowed for my basic account.  What can I do?

Hi there, madsaj let's look into this together!

Have you tried downloading our desktop app using this link? Once you do, you can then install the app and a Dropbox folder will be created on your device.

Keep in mind that you should be able to download our desktop app even with a Basic account, as long as you don't exceed the device limit mentioned here.

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there.

If you have exceeded the device limit that Megan mentioned, just remove the existing device from your Security page first, then install the app. Even though it's the same device, Dropbox sees it as a new computer. Think of it more like installations, rather than devices.
