Reinstalled the Dropbox app and it wants to rename my Dropbox folder
Sadly, I had already downloaded another and have a problem -- instead of picking up my old dropbox folder, the installer wants to rename it. I'm not sure what to do now. except reboot in the middle o...

9 months agoHey muddleglum, thanks for reaching out to the Dropbox Community.
Since your issue is not relevant to the thread you posted in, I moved it to a thread of its own and we'll continue working on your issue here.
From your description, it sounds like you either previously had your Dropbox folder in a different location than the default one (C:/Username/Dropbox) or you signed in to the Dropbox application with a different account and not the one that was previously linked to the particular computer.
Can you check and let me know if any of the above is the case?
Any additional info on the issue or screenshots will also be really helpful.
Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your reply. Neither is true, my dropbox folder is in the correct location (C:/User/name/Dropbox, which is different than what you typed.) As I wrote to Walter, I had to reboot for another reason and, on running, I got to two other steps that recognized my folder as correct before giving up. I'll be leaving for the day, but will try getting screenshots for you tomorrow morning.

I'm sending screenshots 7-8. I think the will enable you to get your bearings. Number 8 is the "already a folder" dialog. Note that I have a slow connection and it will probably not work to send the whole of this over the Internet.

It may help to know that I have a now out of sync dropbox folder in another computer. The computers are linked by wifi, so if that gives you a creative nudge . . .

Hello again, muddleglum!
Let's try something different. I'd like for you to try the steps that Nancy provided here.
But this time, instead of choosing C:\Users\username\Dropbox, please choose C:\Users\username as your desired path.
Do you still get the same error when you do that?

Did you notice that the previous "Advanced Settings" picture is doubled? That might be a clue that y'all have sent me a version that doesn't work on my system. As it is, it makes it difficult to find and click buttons and such.
