Solved

The sync icons on my Windows computer seem to have changed

Why have the synced icons on my PC changed from a green circle with a tick (Available on this PC) to a solid green circle with a tick (Always available on this PC) when I haven't changed anything? Never seen this before and the only option on right clicking the Dropbox menu is to make online only...with a blue cloud icon.

  • Thanks for the update, rduff!

These actually don't look like Dropbox sync icons; do you happen to have OneDrive enabled? It looks like it might be interfering with your Dropbox files.

Thanks for reaching out to the Dropbox Community, rduff.

Would you mind sending us a screenshot of how the icons look?

Do they seem different than the ones you see in this Help Center article?

    Keep me posted!

See attached. The new files are those with the solid green circle...and that icon is not shown in the Help Centre article!

    Thanks for the screenshot, rduff.

These are indeed a couple of Dropbox sync icons that already existed; would you mind checking the article I linked in my previous reply for additional info on the sync icons, and let me know if you have any questions?

Sorry...yes you're right the icons do exist. But why are new documents being synched this way and not existing ones? I haven't changed any settings

Hmm, if you go to the "sync" tab in your Dropbox preferences, what's the selected option for syncing new files?

These are set to available off line...and always have been. Changed the whole Dropbox folder to online only which produced a visible thumbnail and a blue cloud icon but not the grey one shown in the article you referenced, then swapped them back to off line again...and now they all have the solid green circle. What is going on?

    Hi again.

    OK good news...problem solved.

Yes they were OneDrive icons which was installed on the PC but never used.

Uninstalled OneDrive and then Dropbox using Revo uninstaller to also remove all registry entries...then reinstalled Dropbox which now works as it should with the correct icons.

    Thanks for your help.

Yet again, Dropbox has 'updated' and substituted One Drive icons....which isn't even installed on the PC. Why does this keep happening and how do I restore the correct icons? Have uninstalled Dropbox software and reinstalled, but same problem.

Dropbox can't do that. It can't substitute icons from an application that it doesn't control. It will attempt to enforce its own icon overlays during a reinstall or update, but it can't replace icons with those from OneDrive.

Either you still have OneDrive installed or it's coming from your operating system.
