Why is the Dropbox app using over 700 MB of memory on my Mac computer?
Have been using Dropbox for years but lately my iMac is extremely slow. Checking the Activity Monitor from Apple, learned that Dropbox is using 747,9 MB of memory.
What should be a normal value and...

2 months agoHey Rob F.14! Hope you don’t mind if I jump in here.
Can you clarify which of the steps you’ve followed exactly, so that I can guide you from there?
I’d also like to know the current syncing status and app version of your Dropbox app.

Removed and reinstalled Dropbox for Mac exactly as stipulated in https://help.dropbox.com/nl-nl/installs/advanced-reinstall#reinstallDropboxmac. Closing Dropbox, removing Dropbox, rebooting the Mac and entering the commands in Terminal. Finally downloding and installing Dropbox 224.3.4654. Apple's Activity Monitor now shows Dropbox is using 661,8 MB.
Dropbox-files are still in MyHomefolder/Dropbox where they have been for (at least?) 10 years.
As for the requested status, I only can tell that the Dropbox app in the menubar of the Mac informs me that "All files are up to date" (synced). If you need other/more info, please let me know.

Followed the instructions given in "Advanced reinstall" including shutting down Dropbox and removing the Dropbox-app from my Mac using the app 'AppCleaner'. Then rebooting the Mac and using the commands in Terminal as instructed. Finally downloading Dropbox version 224.3.4654.
Early this morning Apple's 'Activity Monitor' showed Dropbox using 661,8 MB and while typing this reply it showed 433,4 MB.
As for the Syncing Status, I only can state what the Dropbox-app in the menubar tells me: "All files are up to date" (synced). If you need more info, please let me know.

Thanks for the updates, Rob F.14! It looks like your Dropbox app’s version is the beta one, and not the stable one (224.3.4654 instead of 223.4.4909), so I’d like to make sure that’s not what’s causing your computer’s memory to spike.
What I want you to do next is go to this page and turn off early access (under the Preferences section). After that, please download the latest stable app version instead and let me know if you see any difference.
