The file type is an xlsx file type.

When I open the file in Excel a message at the top states ‘ To edit and save, sign in with a subscription’. Does this help you in understanding what is wrong

Hey floater1 - sorry to jump in here, but have you ensured that you're logged into a Microsoft account on the Excel app?
A screenshot of the exact error would be extremely helpful as Jay pointed out.
- floater12 years agoExplorer | Level 3Hi Walter, I went back to the file in Excel and clicked on sign in and that took me to registering for Microsoft Premium 365 . I thought it was free to use Excel in Dropbox
