Issue with DaVinci Resolve upload location in Dropbox folder & feedback

Hi Dropbox Support Team,

I’d like to report an issue I’m experiencing when using Dropbox in combination with DaVinci Resolve, as well as suggest a potential improvement.

In my workflow, I edit videos in DaVinci Resolve and store my project folders inside Dropbox. I collaborate with clients and project partners directly inside these folders and use Dropbox comments for feedback, which ideally should appear inside DaVinci Resolve’s timeline.

However, when I export a video from DaVinci Resolve and enable the option “Upload to Dropbox”, the application behaves unexpectedly: it creates two versions of the file. One version is correctly saved in the project folder I selected during export (which is also synced via Dropbox), but DaVinci Resolve additionally uploads another copy into the root folder of my Dropbox account.

The issue is that only the copy in the root folder becomes linked to Resolve’s comment integration, meaning comments and feedback are associated with the wrong instance of the file. This leads to confusion and unnecessary duplicates in my storage.

Suggested improvement:

It would be extremely helpful if the “Upload to Dropbox” functionality would upload the file only to the folder selected during export, rather than defaulting to the root directory. This way, the file used for collaboration, feedback, and timeline comment syncing would be consistent and properly organized within the designated project folder.

This change would significantly improve efficiency and clarity when collaborating with clients inside structured Dropbox project directories.

Thank you very much in advance for your support and consideration.

Thanks for getting back to me! No, I'm not using the Replay Integration in this case, but the regular integration for Dropbox. The idea behind that is, that I'm sharing a folder of a project with other people to collaborate and would like to share a video file straight out of Resolve in that folder but also get the comments directly back into Resolve.

However, if I want to link a file and the comments with a timeline in Resolve, I have to export it via the checkbox for "Upload to Dropbox", which uploads it to the root dropbox folder and not to the project. As I set the normal file destination for a location within dropbox as well, I get two times the same file in different locations, with the wrong file being linked to my timeline in Resolve.

Let me know if you have any questions for this case. Would love to see this workflow being improved and help out making this better.

Hey phjsw, thanks for reaching out to the Dropbox Community!

We really appreciate your feedback on this integration.

As a first step, I wanted to clarify if you're perhaps using the Dropbox Replay integration with DaVinci Resolve.

Also, can you send us some screenshots of how the two uploaded files appear in your Dropbox folder, so we can have a visual of the issue?

Just make sure to hide any personal info before attaching the screenshots.

    Thanks in advance!
