You typically keep your bonus space in addition to what's included in your new plan. You currently have 22.38 GB total? If so, subtract 3 GB for the space included with the free Basic plan, then add 50 GB for the new plan. You'll likely ended up with 69.38 GB.
For example, I had a free Basic account with 70 GB of bonus space (73 GB total). When I upgraded to Professional I had 2.07 TB, and then 3.07 TB when I upgraded again to Essentials.
