Backup every 15 minutes option not available once you surpass 1TB?
Hey everyone,
I've got 2tb of Dropbox Plus storage and I'm backing up an external SSD. Up until I surpassed 1tb used, I was able to choose the option to "backup every 15 minutes". Yesterday, after downloading a big music sample library and surpassing 1tb, I lost that option and now the most frequent one I can pick is "once a day". Is this normal? Why wouldn't I be able to backup every 15 minutes just because I'm using a certain amount of storage on my acccount?
I'm on Mac OS Ventura 13.7.7, 2019 MacBook Pro 16inch.
Any help is appreciated,
-Ethan
Hi ethankorvne,
I just wanted to chime in here and confirm something.
If the drive usage is less than 1TB, it should show the 15min option.
If you are just excluding some folders from Backup, that won't help. We do check the total usage of the drive, regardless of what you choose to Backup.
So to confirm, is there less than 1TB of data on the drive? Or do you have more than 1TB and only have less than 1TB selected for back up?

Hey there, welcome to the community ethankorvne
I just looked into this for you and found out that this is indeed expected behavior. Once you pass the 1TB threshold you won't be able to sync every 15 minutes.

Thanks for your response! I cleared up enough storage that I'm now well under 1TB but I still don’t have the option to backup every 15 minutes anymore, even after a few restarts. How do I get this option back?

Hey ethankorvne, thanks for posting here!
If you access your Backup preferences in the desktop app, are you able to see the option there?
Let me know more!

Hi Megan,
Here is what I see in the backup preferences section of the desktop app:
And here is what I see where I used to have the option to choose every 15 minutes:
I did choose to exclude some folders within my external hard drive recently. Would that somehow affect when I can back it up?

Ahhh, I see the problem then. I’m only backing up about 600gigs on the drive, but the TOTAL amount stored on the drive is over a terabyte. I just didn’t realize that would affect the Dropbox sync if I’m not syncing all of that.

Hey ethankorvne!
As Neal mentioned, you'd need to reduce the drive's total usage, in order to have the 15 minute option. Let us know if you try it.
If you need something else, I will be more than happy to help every step of the way.

That should be everything I need! If I manage to clear enough storage, I’ll try it and let you know, thanks guys!
