Confused about my account email and access on desktop

I've been using Dropbox for years through one email address.  I recently closed the business connected to this email so (I thought) I changed the email associated with my Dropbox to a new address.  Now I am only able to access my files and folders if I login to Dropbox on a browser.  I want to be able to access the files, as I used to, in my Windows explorer folder but there's nothing there (except newly saved files).  I'm also working on a new pc and I can't seem to change the email associated to the pc.  Is this anything to do with my problem?

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

  • Think I've sorted it now.  My files had not syncd to my PC but I have come across the step I needed to complete. Thank you

Hi SueSi, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Just for clarification, are you able to login to the Dropbox account and change the email address on this page?

This will help me to assist further!

Yes that's I can access this page, I can see the correct email is showing as my personal email (and change if necessary) and I can see all the correct files and folders on the left hand side.

Does it have the old business email address that you no longer use?

Are you able to change it to another email address that you have access to, one which isn't already associated with a Dropbox account?

When you ask 'does it have the old business email'  are you referring to my PC or Dropbox account?

    Hi SueSi1

I'm Theresa, one of the Community Managers here at Dropbox. I noticed that our amazing Jay assisted you with resolving your issue back in April, which is just great to hear!

I'm curious to know how things have been going with Dropbox since then. I always enjoy learning how people use Dropbox in their daily routines. If you're open to sharing, I'd love to hear how you've been using it... whether it's for storing photos, schoolwork, or something else entirely. You never know, we might even have some useful tips to share with you.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
