You may be thinking of an older version of the app that no longer exists. For a short time the Dropbox app also showed your folders and files directly within the app, basically having its own file manager, instead of redirecting you to your local Dropbox folder in Explorer or Finder.
The only option now to view your files and folders is through Explorer or Finder. In addition to Dell's suggestion, you can also just double-click the Dropbox icon in your system tray and it will open your local Dropbox folder instead of the Dropbox app.

Hey there Cheryl1f welcome to the community!
At the moment, the Dropbox desktop app always opens to the Activity view, and there isn’t a setting available to change the default page to show folders instead.
You can still open your folders quickly by selecting Open Dropbox folder from the Dropbox icon in your system tray or menu bar, or by opening your Dropbox folder directly through File Explorer or Finder.
If you want to recommend Dropbox adding this feature, head over to our Ideas forum and make a suggestion!

Hey Cheryl1f, thanks for posting your question today.
Would you mind clarifying this a bit?
Do you mean that you'd like the small Dropbox icon in your system tray, to open your local Dropbox folder when clicked on?
If not, would you mind sending me a screenshot of what view you want, so I can assist you better?
Thanks!
