283 TopicsDropbox desktop app: simplification of preferences
This refers to using Dropbox on a Mac. With the Dropbox icon in the Mac menu, potentially in the Dock, and the app itself accessible through Launchpad all leading to different things, there's already confusion. More than that, key features seem hidden. Let's unify everything under the Mac menu icon. Any function it would be reasonable for a user to access should be either immediately visible or visible upon clicking "Preferences." Right now, it is not obvious how to get to Preferences (by clicking on the user's initials)—this is pointless obfuscation. Preferences is a main menu item and should be positioned as such. The specific issue I had was with Backups. First, there's no reason that "Manage backups" should require a second click, rather than being available immediately (along with the other options "Ask to backup..." "camera uploads" etc.). When we click on "Manage backups," the instruction is "Add backups" or "let's get started." But what happened was, somehow I turned backups on...and I wanted to turn it OFF. There was no option that I could find that made clear how to do that. I realize you want people to use your features...but we should be able to choose NOT to use them also. In this Manage backups screen, "Turn on backups" should be one option, and "Turn off backups" should be another (grayed out if there are none...perhaps even with a phrase along the lines of "you have no backups set up.") Users cannot be expected to know which features the app sets up automatically, and so if they want to adjust one of them, they should be able to tell whether it's current active or not, explicitly, and not only by implication. Thanks.27Views0likes1CommentDropbox Badge no longer showing edit history
Hey everyone, I recently noticed that the Dropbox Badge no longer displays who last edited a document. Instead, it mainly shows who is currently viewing the file. This was a useful feature for tracking changes without opening file history, and I’m wondering if there’s a way to bring it back. Does anyone know if this functionality is gone for good, or if there’s a workaround to restore the edit info in the badge? Any insights would be appreciated! Thanks!103Views1like12CommentsThe Dropbox icon on my Mac only opens the Dropbox folder and I can't get to the preferences
I have been having issues with my dropbox syncing across devices - I think there is an issue in my selective sync. However, everytime I attempt to open the dropbox desktop application on my mac, it only opens the finder folder. I have no options to go to dropbox setting or preferences from there.55Views0likes5CommentsHow do I share or link files between two Windows computers?
I have two desktop computers: 1) 500GB Windows 11 SSD w/ 12% storage remaining, and 2) 1TB Windows 10 SSD w/ 33% storage remaining. Two years ago I disabled Dropbox from the 500GB computer after a first attempt to use Dropbox: it duplicated my files and threw them back onto the hard drive, leaving me with just 7GB on it (somehow I was able to get 50GB back, can't remember how). This year I decided to give Dropbox another try, I read and read and read every Dropbox instructions I could, set my 1TB computer to Cloud Only, and am OK with that machine. Now if I re-enable Dropbox on my 500GB computer, setting it to Cloud Only, can I be confident files won't be plugging up the hard drive again? And assuming I can share/link files between the two computers, how do I do that? And are there dangers of plugging things up again if I do?Solved78Views0likes5CommentsUnable to find Screenshot settings anymore.
Did latest Dropbox update v219.4.4463 changed something in screenshot settings? Usually after taking screenshot I had this screenshot floating window in corner of screen, which created a dropbox link after this window closed. But a day or two ago this window changed to more advanced one (with 3 additional buttons) and option to copy image or link - since I din't like behavior I changed settings so that it created dropbox link but not show window. Now I would like to change this behavior again, but unable to find Screenshots settings in preferences. ChatGPT says that changing screenshot settings, including saving location (Private or Work account) should be under Settings > Backups > Screenshots, but it is not there and I'm unable to find one. Another suggestion is to do it in Dropbox Desktop app, but I don't have it installed, so the Desktop app couldn't be the place where I changed screenshot settings in first place..53Views1like7CommentsHow to disable clipboard content overwrite when taking screenshots?
I just found out that when taking a screenshot with Dropbox on Windows 10, Dropbox puts a share url into your clipboard. I would like to disable that feature. All I could find was a seven year old discussion of the problem for MacOS and the options mentioned there aren't available to me.Solved59Views0likes4CommentsMoving Dropbox folder is almost impossible
Have you ever tried to move your dropbox folder? It is nearly impossible to do it without it redownloading everything and that can take days. There is no excuse for such a bad product! And ever try to remove the dropbox folder link in from the top of your windows desktop folder? I do not want it there and it is impossible to move it! Go god how incompetent can one company be!30Views0likes1Comment217.4.4417 breaks screenshot pasting feature on Windows
A new update of Dropbox was pushed to me today. It added a new set of options related to screenshots. Show quick action after screenshot... I dislike this, I preferred just getting the notification, but at least I can turn this off. When Screenshot is ready... "Copy link to clipboard" or "Copy Picture to clipboard" I typically take a screenshot by pressing print screen, then pasting the screenshot in Discord or my art software, I REQUIRE this functionality to maintain my productivity. but I also like to have the image saved to dropbox as a backup. With "Copy Link to Clipboard", well, it's a link, Art software isn't going to know what to do with that, and discord doesn't inline images from Dropbox very well, so I'd still rather have an image in the clipboard. The 2nd option, "Copy Picture to Clipboard", well, when I try and paste, nothing happens. I want a 3rd option... "Leave Clipboard alone", just, whatever print screen normally does, just let it happen. Just Save the image to my Screenshots folder in Dropbox, and leave it at that, like it used to be. Is that too much to ask? Note: I do pay for Dropbox.220Views0likes15CommentsNew screenshot update
So dropbox randomly updated to new screenshot expirience which is not useful as it was. I've always used drag and drop feature while screenshot appeared on the corner to quickly throw file on desktop or import it to file, but right now it have annoying icons on it and i cant drag the picture into any app or do anything about it, what the point of this update? Is theres a way to revert this? Did you tested it with real users? I can always do mark up inside macos preview, there no need of "dropbox" feature for this IMO52Views2likes4CommentsHow can I disable the Dropbox sign-in notification on one of my Windows user profiles?
Hi all! I have a PC with windows 10 and with automatic startup for dropbox (version 293.3.4428). In this PC there are two accounts; the first has automatic log-in (but no dropbox account for this user) the latter, instead has an account on dropbox. So, when the pc start-up the first account receive an annoying spash screen by dropbox of sign-in. Can I disable this message? Regards.Solved47Views0likes1Comment
