Hi everyone. I have a Dropbox Plus plan with 2 TB of storage. My system setup is the following: AMD Ryzen 9 CPU 2 × NVMe SSDs (2 TB each), one dedicated exclusively to the Dropbox folder 32 GB DDR5 RAM (2 × 16 GB @ 6000 MHz) Swap memory initially set to 16 GB (tested up to 128 GB) The total amount of files stored locally is approximately 500 GB. Recently, I encountered the following issue: After making a minor change to the file structure (moving a folder of approximately 50 MB to a different path), the Dropbox daemon unexpectedly started a full re-indexing of all files. Within a few minutes, the Dropbox client crashes. During this process, both RAM and swap memory are fully exhausted. I attempted multiple mitigations, including increasing swap memory up to 128 GB and reducing the synced dataset to approximately 200 GB, but the result is always the same: after several minutes, the Dropbox client crashes and syncing cannot complete. This behavior makes it impossible to keep my files synchronized, despite having more than adequate hardware resources. Is this a known limitation or issue with the Linux Dropbox client, and is there any recommended solution or workaround to prevent full re-indexing and client crashes in this scenario? Thank you in advance for your assistance. Kind regards,50Views0likes4CommentsHow should I handle the Dropbox app before and after reinstalling Windows on my computer?
Hi everyone, I installed Windows on the C drive and have my Dropbox folder on the D drive. I use the Dropbox app. I want to completely reinstall Windows. I want to delete everything from the C drive and reinstall Windows. The D drive remains unchanged; all data remains there. Are these the correct steps to take: 1) Log out from Desktop app 2) Exit Dropbox app 3) Uninstall Dropbox app 4) Install Windows 11 5) Install Dropbox app 6) Assign to the same folder Is this the right way? Won't that conflict? I want to avoid having to re-sync everything.49Views0likes6CommentsHaving issues reinstalling Dropbox on Mac OS
I'm having issues reinstalling my Dropbox on my MacOS (15.7.1) desktop. I had it synced with Scrivener, but it was taking so long to sync that I deleted the app mid-sync and cleared out the CloudStorage folder of the Dropbox folder. Then I uninstalled the app, and deleted all trace of Dropbox from my computer. I just reinstalled it but then I was getting errors saying it wasn't able to load. This is the message I got saying I should share it with Support. Now I've unlinked my device from my account, and when I open the desktop app it just keeps saying it's not connected to the internet. I'm not quite sure what to do. Also when I try to attach my error message about "7 5 5 is not allowed in the community. Remove it and try again," so here's my pastebin of my error log.18Views0likes8CommentsOld Dropbox folders displayed in Windows File Explorer. How to remove them?
I have several DropBox folders on my desktop computer - Dropbox, Dropbox (Old), Dropbox (Old (1)), Dropbox (Old (2)). I don't know how this happened. I tried deleting some but lost my desktop icons and had to resore them all back to square one! With all these duplicate folders I don't know where my files are being copied to. How can I rationalise my DropBox setup, please?41Views0likes2CommentsLogged out of the Dropbox app and back in and now I have a 'Dropbox (old)' and a 'Dropbox' folder
Application Affected Synching files Device PC Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) Windows Desktop Question or Issue Had a funny problem with the Windows Explorer status icons not all being corrected, and saw a recommended to "simply" sign out of Dropbox and sign back in. Simple enough. Which I did. I then got a pop up asking me (telling me really) to rename my Dropbox folder. I said OK, and I now have a Dropbox and Dropbox (old) in the User directory. All of my files are in (old). None are in new. Every link on my PC to my old files is now of course broken. I paused syncing because I am worried Dropbox is going to try and create an entirely new copy of all of my files in the new Dropbox folder. Does anyone know what it going on here? And how to put things back to they way they were before? Why on earth would a logout/login totally reorganize all of my files??? I'm kind of dead in the water right now so any help would be greatly appreciated. Dropbox support seems to be non-existent.72Views0likes8CommentsMy Dropbox app keeps indexing files and I'm running out of hard drive space
I was running out of room on my MacBook Air (2 TB, Sonoma 14.7.8) and was told to make all Dropbox folders Online only to free up storage. It started indexing and freed up almost 1 TB so I was happy for a few minutes. Then it kept indexing and a few days later I was out of memory again. This has been going on for 6 weeks! ChaptGPT calls this a "rehydration" DropbBox Death loop. Chat said to mark the whole DropBox master folder as Online Only, then stop and restart DropbBox ap. Did not solve the problem. Possible clue: My main computer (MacBook Pro (4 TB, Sonoma 14.6.1) is doing fine except the Finder now shows that there is a 20 GB "Conflicted" copy of my DropBox files. Can anyone help me?89Views0likes6CommentsOption to convert 'Available' to 'Available Offline'
Dropbox makes the distinction between Available Offline (local copy might be deleted to save space) and Always Available Offline (local copy will never be deleted by Dropbox). The former has the white icon with green border and checkmark, the latter the green icon with white checkmark. I want to be able to change files and folders from Available Offline (AO), to Always Available offline (AAO). Currently, Dropbox does not offer that possibility directly. The only way to achieve this effect is to convert the AO files/folders to Online Only (OO) first, and then select Make available offline. This is a time-consuming process, as Dropbox removes the local copies when converting to OO, and then re-downloads all the content. Unnecessarily, I might add, since all the content had local copies to begin with. Since the conversion from AO to AAO should be nothing more than changing some kind of flag on the files and folders, it should be a simple matter to provide a command for that purpose. And the opposite conversion (from AAO to AO) should also be available. (Currently, for AAO content, the only option is OO as well.) This is relevant for user who use the option to automatically save space. They want control over which files are and aren't candidates for removal of their local copies. But this is also relevant for people who currently do not use that option. When they decide to turn that option on, they do not want to run the risk of seeing their local copies vanish into the cloud without any control over which files are thus OO'ed. So, two additional commands in the context menu for Dropbox folders and files: On AO files and folders, something like Always keep this item on this device. On AAO files and folders, something like This item may be made OO to save space. (On OO files and folders, the Make available offline command is already in place for the conversion to AAO.)127Views1like3CommentsCan't sync my account after going from a team account to a personal one
