The Dropbox icon on my Mac only opens the Dropbox folder and I can't get to the preferences

I have been having issues with my dropbox syncing across devices - I think there is an issue in my selective sync. However, everytime I attempt to open the dropbox desktop application on my mac, it only opens the finder folder. I have no options to go to dropbox setting or preferences from there.

Hey MattofRI, sorry to see that you're having this issue.

In that case, can you uninstall the Dropbox app, restart your computer and reinstall it, to see if that makes a difference?

I have this same problem and I reinstalled the app without uninstalling first and nothing changed.  No dropbox icon in menu bar and "opening" from dock or finder simply opens the folder I'm finder and gives me no access to preferences which I need to review of sync issues I'm having.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, maddiefuller.

Can you reinstall the Dropbox app without uninstalling first, to see if it helps?

Unfortunately the dropbox icon never appears in the apple menu bar at the top of the screen. One click immediately opens finder and I only get the option for finder on the menu bar.

Make sure you're clicking the Dropbox icon in your menu bar at the top of the screen, and that you're only clicking it once. Clicking it twice opens the folder. Clicking it once opens the menu.
