Device MacBook Air M1, 2020 Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Mac OS Tahoe 26.1 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 237.4.5355 Dropbox Plan Plus Question or Issue I haven't been able to see thumbnails on offline only files since the OS upgrade to Sequoia 4 years ago. It appears like the solution to this widespread problem has been resolved with the File Provider API, but if I try to follow the steps to enable I get the message "You are not eligible for Dropbox on File Provider at this time". I have already set all my files to be online only, restarted the computer, re-installed the latest version of dropbox desktop. What am I missing?Solved64Views0likes8CommentsBackup every 15 minutes option not available once you surpass 1TB?
Hey everyone, I've got 2tb of Dropbox Plus storage and I'm backing up an external SSD. Up until I surpassed 1tb used, I was able to choose the option to "backup every 15 minutes". Yesterday, after downloading a big music sample library and surpassing 1tb, I lost that option and now the most frequent one I can pick is "once a day". Is this normal? Why wouldn't I be able to backup every 15 minutes just because I'm using a certain amount of storage on my acccount? I'm on Mac OS Ventura 13.7.7, 2019 MacBook Pro 16inch. Any help is appreciated, -EthanSolved155Views0likes8CommentsDropbox desktop app on Mac forces sync preference to be online-only repeatedly
Latest macOS: Sequoia 15.6. Dropbox: 230.4.8797 I have been noticing a sync issue warning in Dropbox menu bar for a few days so I checked settings today: I had selected the "Default sync preference" as "Available offline" when installing Dropbox on Mac. But I see in the settings that it had changed to "Online-only" on its own. I have more than sufficient disk space on my Mac and in comparison my entire Dropbox folder size is a fraction. I do not do have any other folder sync selected other than ~/Dropbox and in "selective sync" tab I select all folders to be available on this mac. As you can see in the screenshot above I have not even opted for "Dropbox on File Provider" and I do not want to. Even right now as I am writing this post and it switches back to "Online-only" the moment I move to any tab even in Dropbox settings and come back to sync preferences tab. (I have screen-recording but I can't embed in this post. I can share if needed). So at this point I am not even sure whether all my files and folders are actually available offline on the mac. How do I fix this?Solved633Views0likes22CommentsMacOS: desktop folders are now aliases - How can I switch back?
So my Desktop, Documents, and Downloads folders are no longer folders, but rather aliases to these folders within the dropbox folder. I understand that this is because at some point they were set to be backed up by dropbox. Unfortunately this is completely breaking when I try to use migration assistant to move to a new machine. Not everything is copied over - a bunch of these folders are missing - and the aliases themselves are broken. I want to go back to these folders being real folders and no longer aliases so that I can do the migration. Is it as simple as turning off backups in Dropbox? Will it then move these folders back to where they are supposed to be? Will that delete the backed up files on Dropbox because they have now been removed from the backups? I've read this: "https://help.dropbox.com/organize/delete-dropbox-backup" but it just talks about deleting a backup. I don't want my files deleted. I just want them back to where they belong. I will be doing a time-machine backup before I make any changes to make sure I get everything. But I would also love it if the migration assistant just worked out of the box. Bonus question: I have been reading that Dropbox is changing how it works on MacOS... that there is a "new way" of managing files that would change the above behavior. It would be storing data in ~/Library/CloudStorage. Is this something I should change to be using? If so, how? And what are the consequences of making this change? I've read this: "https://help.dropbox.com/installs/dropbox-for-macos-support" but it is very technical and does not really tell me what the difference is for an end user - i.e. where will my files be stored? How is it different than the way Dropbox worked before from an end user perspective. Thanks!Solved454Views0likes3CommentsDropbox desktop app: simplification of preferences
This refers to using Dropbox on a Mac. With the Dropbox icon in the Mac menu, potentially in the Dock, and the app itself accessible through Launchpad all leading to different things, there's already confusion. More than that, key features seem hidden. Let's unify everything under the Mac menu icon. Any function it would be reasonable for a user to access should be either immediately visible or visible upon clicking "Preferences." Right now, it is not obvious how to get to Preferences (by clicking on the user's initials)—this is pointless obfuscation. Preferences is a main menu item and should be positioned as such. The specific issue I had was with Backups. First, there's no reason that "Manage backups" should require a second click, rather than being available immediately (along with the other options "Ask to backup..." "camera uploads" etc.). When we click on "Manage backups," the instruction is "Add backups" or "let's get started." But what happened was, somehow I turned backups on...and I wanted to turn it OFF. There was no option that I could find that made clear how to do that. I realize you want people to use your features...but we should be able to choose NOT to use them also. In this Manage backups screen, "Turn on backups" should be one option, and "Turn off backups" should be another (grayed out if there are none...perhaps even with a phrase along the lines of "you have no backups set up.") Users cannot be expected to know which features the app sets up automatically, and so if they want to adjust one of them, they should be able to tell whether it's current active or not, explicitly, and not only by implication. I have been having issues with my dropbox syncing across devices - I think there is an issue in my selective sync. However, everytime I attempt to open the dropbox desktop application on my mac, it only opens the finder folder. I have no options to go to dropbox setting or preferences from there.200Views0likes5Comments"Send Feedback" is broken
When I click "Send Feedback" in the Dropbox menubar icon, in order to file a bug report, the app makes my web browser open: Group: Dropbox for macOS | The Dropbox Community which redirects immediately to: Group: Dropbox for macOS | The Dropbox Community which then gives me this error: Dropbox v189.3.8308 macOS 13.6.2 (Ventura, ARM)Solved1.5KViews0likes7CommentsNo option for "make online only" when I right click my files
I have a professional DropBox account and I'm working on a Mac, OS 12.5. I have several files that are sync'd locally that I would like to move off my hard drive and make online only. When I right-click on the folders, however, I'm not getting the option from the drop-down menu to make the files online only. Any suggestions? I have Dropbox on my Mac OS Sonoma. As soon as it was installed, my Screenshots disappeared from my Mac Desktop and appeared in Dropbox. How can I stop this? I do NOT want my screenshots in Dropbox. They need to be on my Mac desktop. Thanks for any help--as a last resort I will just get rid of Dropbox from my Mac if there is no remedy for this. Caroline1.8KViews0likes10Comments
