Update email used by this Community

I am within days of closing the email account I signed on with many years ago.

You entered the correction I sent to you many months ago, but today, via a boilerplate email, I see that this side of Dropbox is still sending to the account I am trying to clean out in order to close it.

I have found everything about email updates through your online links, everything but how to change the one you have held onto for the Community database.

Why do all of you internet companies separate business updates from your other departments?

HOW do I get this section simply to make the change without having to click through a long list of irrelevant "One of these might help" links?

Hi William D.5, thanks for posting here today.

Just to make sure we’re on the same page, do you mean that you’re still getting emails from the Dropbox Community to your old email address, even though your Dropbox email address has already been updated to another one?

Let me know and we’ll check this further.

Oh! Do you actually have a place where small-time free users can update their email address with you? If your company provided the URL that I could go to make the correction, I would have done it myself. (You wrote as though there is some place I could have already done it, but as I said, I could find nothing among your "Help" clicks that spoke of changing the primary (only) email address.)

Therefore, if I were to learn how to get you to update my email so that you would have the correct one for an active account, the only thing I found as a small-time free user was to write to the Dropbox Community. Everything else offered a multitude of options, except the only one I need. I never had to write to the Community before.

What I mean is that I can find no direct way simply to file an email update with you. If you hold onto the closed account, you obviously would not be able to contact me any more.

Everything I saw presents the now defunct email address as my email, but, again, I have never found anything where I can simply update to the new email.

Don't feel bad. In the now nearly four months I have been trying to move correspondence to the new GMail. (My firt email, 1995, was Hotmail. Microsoft bought it several years ago, making it a subdomain of Outlook, but last year started an obvious strategy to force free users to buy storage on their servers. But, since they had messed up my email for so many years, I instantly chose to move everything from them, to move whole folders to a more intelligently run software company. But it turned out that here in the time of mobile devices, apparently only a handful of sites realize that a lot of people change their email accounts. This means that for basically every account it takes multiple communications just to make a simple update. What could have taken me 2 or 3 weeks back in November therefore has forced me to spend nearly four months on this otherwise simple task.

      Yes.

I suspect that notice of this response also went there because, just now, four days later, I got notice in my long-ago-corrected GMail address that there was a response. Pretty good indication of incomplete updating, isn't it?

Again, as with a few hundred other internet outfits, the update in email was done at the identity level, but went unchanged in all other databases. After nearly four months of the ordeal of simply updating email, I still puzzle why it seems to be an industry-wide practice to fail to update across the board.
