Login in to old account without security code

Hello,

my former university email address I registered my account to, is not active and availible anymore and Dropbox for some unknown reason now requires a 6 digit security code to login. This code is send to my old email address. I did not activate security code verification in my settings, so what can I do to login to my account to change the not active email address? Thankyou

Unfortunately, without access to the email address to receive the security code, you won't be able to gain access to the Dropbox account. Your best option will be to contact your university and see if they can reactivate your email address, even if it's just temporary so you can receive the code.

While you may not have activated two-step verification, Dropbox will still send a one-time security code if they feel a sign in attempt is suspicious.

    Hello,

thankyou for the answer. Unfortunately the University can not create or reinstate the former email address, called them already. Is there a way to at least delete my account? greetings

Hey Braxman, hope it’s OK to jump in.

Only you’d be able to delete your Dropbox account in this case, by logging in to it.

However, what I can suggest as an alternative is to open a ticket with our support team, since they may be able to help in some cases.

In order to do this, please open a browser that’s NOT signed in to any Dropbox account and open a ticket via this page. After this, please post your ticket number in this thread, so that we can track your ticket in our system.

    Hello Nancy,

thankyou for your help. So would it be possible to get help to login to my old account and change the Email address or are you referring to the deletion of my former account? Thanks

It's extremely rare that Dropbox will help you sign in to an account when you no longer have access to the email address associated with that account. Your email address is used to verify ownership of the account. The only other way to gain access is if you already have an active device signed in to your account and syncing.

So, contact Support and see what they say. Only they will know the exact options available to you. They likely can't/won't get you signed in and won't delete the account, but if you're still being charged for the account they can at least get any future billing canceled.

Also, once the account is idle for a year, it will be deleted automatically.
