Lost access to Dropbox account in the beginning of 2020 and the email address no longer exists
I have an old Dropbox account that I lost access to back in the beginning of 2020. I lost access to it because the email associated with it no longer exists.

If you haven't logged in to the account since 2020 then the account likely no longer exists. Accounts that are idle for more than a year are deleted due to inactivity.

OK. However, I did get the message "we have sent you a 6-digit code to this email address", so it seems I would technically still be able to access it. Or not?

Hey FannyN.
There’s a chance that Dropbox account may still be open indeed, but we can’t check this here, I’m afraid.
Do you happen to have any devices that are still linked to it (via the desktop/mobile app)? If yes, I’d like you to check their notifications and see if the one-time code can be found there.
Otherwise, let me know, and we’ll see what else we can do.

Also, Dropbox knows that you HAD an account, and it could be setting up a new, empty account upon sign-in. We've seen that many times here. Someone hasn't accessed an account for years, is able to sign in and wonders where their files went. In such a case, they weren't signing in to a new account. It was just Dropbox setting up a new account for them.

Hi FannyN, I’d recommend getting in contact with our support team directly to look into this matter in more detail.
You can do this by opening an incognito/private browsing window, while not signed into your account, and accessing this link.
From there you should be able to contact support. Make sure to pick an email to which you can receive and send emails from.
