Someone gained access to my account and deleted all the files in a shared folder

Hi, I use a shared folder in Dropbox at work and today one of my colleagues told me that I had deleted all the files in it. When I checked, I had no files shared or owned, also the Deleted Files Folder was empty. The only thing I found was a TXT telling me "Your data has been stolen, please contact  someone@outlook.com.
I use my google account to log into Dropbox so mainly what I need to know is if this means that my google account is compromised too.

I have checked the Signed-In Web Browsers in Dropbox and I clearly recognize a log in from a country that is not where I live, I never lost access to my account.

Hope someone can help me  understand how this could have happened and how can I prevent from happening again.

Thanks

Martin

I'm really sorry to hear that, marardao.

For someone to be able to access your Dropbox account, they'd need to know your email and password.

If they don't know your password, they'd need to reset it to access the account, which would mean that they'd need login access to your email account.

Since you've found an unknown browser session in your Security page, I'd definitely suggest deleting that session and resetting your Dropbox password.

If you feel like they've also gained access to your email account, I'd also suggest resetting the password for that too.

Let me know if you have any questions or if you need anything else.

Hannah, thanks for your reply. I changed my email password although no unusual things happened with it, I will delete the session as you are suggesting.

That message is also very commonly associated with viruses and malware.

Make sure you run a full sweep of your machine to check for such things.

Mark, that was the first thing I did, run the antivirus in full scan mode but nothing was found. Thanks for your reply.
