Dropbox notified me that my photos may get deleted, even though I've storage space left.
Good morning everyone, I hope you’re all doing well. I’m not exactly sure how to describe my situation, so I appreciate your patience and understanding. I started using Dropbox a while back because my Apple storage was running low, and I couldn’t afford Apple One anymore t. My wife passed away in March, and since then, life hasn’t been the same. I’ve uploaded all of our photos and memories to Dropbox — they’re incredibly special to me. Looking through them every day brings both pain and peace, as it helps me feel close to her. Recently, I’ve been getting notifications warning that my photos might be deleted, even though my account settings show I still have available space. I’m really worried about losing these memories — they mean more to me than anything. Along with our dog Bailey, who she got just a month before she passed, these photos and videos are what I have left of her. I’m not sharing this for sympathy, but to express how important this is and to hopefully get some help understanding what’s going on or how to fix it. Thank you all for taking the time to read this and for being part of a community that helps others. Wishing everyone a good day.98Views1like1CommentCan I upload about 300 GB of files to my Dropbox account through the website to back it up?
Hello, So I'll try and keep this straight forward. I'm a huge music fan and my most important files are my MP3 etc. I currently have 315GB of downloads on my laptop and would like to back them up. With Dropbox would I be able to simply drag and drop a music file of that size into Dropbox via a old fashioned web upload to the site? I'm aware there's a Dropbox desktop app but I don't necessarily want to sync my files, it's more about having copies safely stored in a reliable place (if that makes sense?). Just want to know if Dropbox is the one for me, Any info/ advice appreciated, Thanks, A Music Fan.216Views5likes2CommentsCan I break the connection between my Dropbox account and local Dropbox folder?
Hello... I recently backed everything up to drop box, then had it restored to my computer. All the files are on my computer and in Dropbox. When I delete those duplicate fils in Dropbox, they are deleted from my computer. How do I stop that from happening and just delete them from Dropbox? Thanks.389Views0likes2CommentsWhen Things Go Wrong: How to Restore Files with Dropbox
This thread ‘File corrupted and cannot be restored from the version history’ here on the Community got me thinking ... it reminded me of how important file recovery tools can be, especially when things go a bit sideways 😬. So I thought I’d put together a quick guide on how to restore files using Dropbox, just in case you ever find yourself in a similar situation 🛠️. We’ve all been there. You delete a file by mistake 🗑️ or maybe overwrite something important and suddenly you realise you need to get it back. The good news? When you’re using Dropbox, restoring files is straightforward ✅. Here’s how it works and what you need to know ⬇️ 🔍 Check your Deleted files If you have accidentally deleted something, start by checking the Deleted files page on Dropbox.com. You can find it in the left-hand sidebar once you’ve signed in. From there: Browse or search for the file or folder you want to recover Click on it and select Restore By default, Dropbox keeps deleted files for 30 days (or longer if you’re on a Business, Professional or team account with extended version history). So as long as you’re within that time frame, recovery is possible 🕒. 🕰️ Restoring earlier versions If you didn’t delete the file but made changes you regret, Dropbox can help with that too. We keep a version history of your files, so you can go back in time and restore a previous version. Here’s how: Open Dropbox.com and find the file Click the three dots beside it, then choose Version history Pick the version you want to bring back and click Restore This works really well for documents that get edited regularly 📝 – especially if you’re collaborating with others and need to undo changes. 📱💻 Using the mobile app or desktop While the web version gives you full control over file recovery, you can also use the Dropbox mobile app to view deleted files or earlier versions. It’s a bit more limited, but good for quick fixes on the go. On the desktop app, any restored file will sync back to your device automatically once you’ve completed the restore online – so there’s no need to manually re-download it 🔁. ❓ What if I still can’t find a file? If you’re still not seeing the file you need or you’re unsure when it was deleted, it’s worth checking with your team admin (if you’re on a team account), or you may be able to find your answer here on the Community 🤝. 💬 Got questions? Or maybe a story to share? Hey, if you’ve ever had one of those moments where Dropbox saved the day – whether it helped you recover a last-minute report, saved your college project 🎓, or just rescued a file you thought was gone for good … drop a comment below ⬇️. It’s always so cool to hear how these features are helping our Community members 💙.139Views2likes0CommentsHow to Manage Your Account Settings and Preferences ⚙️
Hey everyone! 👋 If you're new to Dropbox or just looking to customize your Dropbox account a little more, this guide is for you. Managing your settings doesn’t have to be complicated, and I’ll walk you through it step by step in plain language. Whether you're on a computer 💻 or using the mobile app 📱, we've got you covered. For Web Users (on a laptop or desktop) 💻 Head over to dropbox.com and sign in. In the bottom-left corner, click on your profile picture or initials. From the menu that shows up, click Settings. Once you're in, you'll see a few tabs you can click through: General: This is where you can update things like your name, email, language, and time zone. Plan: Check what plan you're on and see upgrade options if you ever need more space. Security: Manage your password, enable two-step verification, and check which devices are logged into your account. Notifications: Choose what kinds of email or in-app updates you want (or don’t want). Connected Apps: See which apps have access to your Dropbox and remove anything you don’t recognize. Sharing: Set default permissions for shared folders and files so things are only as public as you want them to be. This is your control panel, so take your time and explore 🤗. For Mobile App Users (iOS or Android) 📱 Open the Dropbox app on your phone or tablet. Tap the Account in the bottom-right corner. Tap Settings. Here you can: View account details Manage notifications Turn camera uploads on or off Access offline files Sign out or switch accounts It's all pretty straightforward once you know where to look 😉. A Few Quick Tips Don’t be afraid to click around. Most settings have a short explanation. You don’t need to change everything right away. Just getting familiar with the layout is a great first step 👍. Don’t forget, if you’re stuck or unsure about something, the Community is here to help 👩💻. Shoukd I wait lomger.Solved328Views0likes6CommentsWhat happens if I delete a folder someone else shared with me?
Hi. I hardly ever use Dropbox but I might have a new need for it. However, I have to clear most of what's already in my account to make enough space. One thing that's on my list of Files is a Folder shared with me by someone else. I don't want it - but it's a "shared" folder. If I delete it from my side, does that delete it everywhere? I don't want to deny it to anyone else; I just need it out of my way. Thanks --Solved442Views0likes4CommentsSpring Clean your Desktop with Dropbox 🌸

Installation... the thrilling first step to inviting Dropbox into your digital life. We’re super excited to help you get started, but we also know that sometimes a few sneaky roadblocks can appear, but fear not. From compatibility hurdles to wrestling with unexpected firewalls, we’ve got your back. Here, we’ll take you through the most common installation challenges and how to overcome them, ensuring that your Dropbox is ready to sync, share, and streamline your life. So, get ready, and let’s get Dropbox installed - smooth sailing all the way ⛵. Outdated but Not Forgotten 💻 Picture this: you’re all set to install Dropbox, but your usual old operating system gives you that dreaded error message. If you’re running Windows 7, 8, or 8.1, this might sound familiar. We know saying goodbye to a favorite OS can be tough, but the reality is that as we optimise Dropbox for newer, faster systems, older operating systems might feel a bit... left out. Here’s what you can do to resolve this: Upgrade your OS: If you’re able, upgrading to a more recent version (Windows 10 or later) will make Dropbox and your other programs run like a dream. Use the web version: If upgrading isn’t an option, you can still access Dropbox directly through your browser! It’s not quite the full package, but it’s enough to keep your files flowing. Admin Gatekeepers 🚷 You are trying to install Dropbox, but your computer’s gatekeeper slams the door in your face? That’s because, without administrative permissions, Dropbox cannot be installed on your system. It’s like showing up to a party without an invitation - nobody is going to let you in. Here’s what you can do to resolve this: Check your permissions: Make sure you’re installing Dropbox as an administrator on your computer. If you’re in an office environment, you may need to ask your IT team for the right permissions. Get admin help: If you're not the admin of your device (especially in corporate settings), flag this with your admin team. They can either grant you rights or handle the installation for you. The False Alarms 🚨 Firewalls and antivirus software, sure they mean well, but sometimes they get a little overprotective, blocking Dropbox’s installation as a potential "threat." Think of it as your phone not giving you access with face ID because you have your sunglasses on. Here’s what you can do to resolve this: Whitelist Dropbox: Go into your firewall or antivirus settings and add Dropbox to the “trusted” list. This tells your security software that we’re a friend, not a foe! Turn off scanning (temporarily): Some antivirus programs have aggressive scans that block Dropbox’s installation files. Turning this off for a short time can help smooth out the installation process. Sorry, can’t connect! 📶 Dropbox is powered by the cloud, and clouds need stable internet to float. If your connection is as strong as Spongebob in the gym things can go wrong. Failed downloads, interrupted syncs, and installation errors are all signs your Wi-Fi might need a boost. Here’s what you can do to resolve this: Check your connection: Ensure your internet is stable. Try connecting to another network if possible. Pause and retry: Sometimes, just pausing and re-starting the download once the connection stabilizes can do the trick. Too Full to Sync 🗄️ Dropbox is like a guest who comes with a suitcase full of files, folders, and perhaps previous syncs. But if your device is running out of space in the storage department, there’s nowhere for Dropbox to unpack its bags. Here’s what you can do to resolve this: Do a storage sweep: Free up space by deleting unneeded files or moving some to external storage. Expand your storage: If you constantly run into this issue, it may be time to invest in additional storage capacity whether that's on the device itself or in the cloud. Installation issues are no match for you now. Whether it’s an outdated operating system, lack of admin permissions, or a feisty firewall, you’ve got the main issues covered to get Dropbox installed and ready to make your life easier 🤗. But hey, if you’re facing an issue that wasn’t covered in this article, don’t worry. Feel free to explore the Dropbox Community - it’s a treasure trove of advice and tips from users just like you.
