Hi dropbox community, I’m recently doing a backup to my external hard drive with dropbox backup.

However, today when I log into the same account on different computers, the highlighted button seems to be missing. Can anyone point out why and how to re-enable this function?

We only rolled out this function in two previous desktop versions back in early 2023. After we rolled out Dropbox Backup beta, this function is basically obsolete. You’ll be able to continue to back up like this until dropbox forces you to update their app, which honestly should happen sooner than later.

That being said, Some alternatives would be:

  • The easy way: Log into dropbox.com/backup, set your browser download directory to the external drive you’re backing up to. Voila, but it takes time
  • The tech-savvy way: Consider rclone, you’ll have to learn a few lines of codes though.

Hope this helps!
