Startup Error - EKC3220.DLL not found

Startup Error - EKC3220.DLL not found

jrweiss98020
Helpful | Level 6

Win7-64 Pro, Dropbox 29.4.20; both on auto-updates.

After latest Windows update cycle last week, I get a repeated (10-12 times) error message - EKC3220.DLL not found - when Dropbox is starting.  If I dismiss the string of messages, Dropbox successfully starts.

Any idea what's causing it?

Final fix was to simply copy the dll from the Virtu folder to the dropbox\client folder.

Now to figure out why dropbox needs this dll, and why it wasn't installed on the June 26 update...

Let’s follow some steps together to try to remedy this error.

Seems there’s an incorrect level of permissions when the Dropbox application was installed.

To correct this, please use the following steps:

[Note: Please be sure to take note or take a screenshot of any Selective Sync settings you may have applied prior to re-installing in case you need to re-apply these settings upon re-install.]

#1. Verify that the Windows UAC levels are set to default levels. This can be changed in your Security settings in the control panel.

#2. Uninstall the application keeping in mind that you do not need to remove the Dropbox folder or any files from the Dropbox folder.

#3. Download the newest version of the Dropbox application by visiting the Dropbox website.

#4.  Once you have downloaded the install file, double-click on the file to run the installer. Please do NOT launch the installer by right-clicking on the file and selecting "Run as admin" as this will lead to incorrect install permissions.

#5. During the installation process, you may be prompted for the Admin username and password of your computer. Please be sure and provide the username and password of your Admin user account on your computer.

#6.  Finally, when prompted, enter the email address of the Dropbox account you are using on this computer and if needed, check the advanced preferences to apply any Selective Sync settings.

Hope this is useful to you. If the issue persists after this please let us know and we would be happy to help.

Warm regards,
Jane

Uninstalled and reinstalled.  Same problem - about 15 instances of the error message after download & install, then it started and configured normally.

Hey @jrweiss98020

Hmm, sorry to hear that... Let's go through a couple more steps together!

Seems that it would be better to submit this case to a team specialist, who will better advise on how to have this resolved. Would you mind raising a ticket with our team and letting me know once you have done so here, so that I look it up on my end and send that over for further investigation?

Thanks in advance for your cooperation, looking forward to hearing back from you!

Warm regards,
JaneA

I finally tracked it down to a conflict with the Lucid Virtu MVP Control Panel. Disabling Virtu temporarily allowed Dropbox to start normally.

Now to find out why it cropped up recently. Details in e-mail to Paul.
