Help recovering a personal account

Help recovering a personal account

I have always had a personal Dropbox account. Soon after joining a company to start up a new department, I set up a company/ teams Dropbox account for easy file transfer. Since I already had an account under my personal account I just added teams to that account.

The problem - I was abruptly terminated from my company and was locked out as an admin of the Dropbox account. And now, when I log in with my personal email account credentials (the same that I originally setup the account with) I am told that the username or password is wrong, then I try to reset the password, enter my personal email address in and never get an email to reset, so essentially there is no account under that personal email address; needless to say, I cannot access my previous personal account with years of files.

Does anyone know if it is possible for a Dropbox admin can reinstate my previous personal account/ files?

Does anyone have any idea how I can get all my old personal files? Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi @giuseppetornielli

Unfortunately the only people who can do this are the company you used to work for - they need to undelete the account (which must be done within a few days of initial deletion or its not possible) and then remove you from the team rather than deleting it. If they dont do this then I'm afraid there is nothing anybody can do.

Wow, I'm definitely upset to hear this...

I appreciate your knowledge and help; thank you, Mark.

Sorry 😞

This is why when you do join a team it almost forces you to set up a second account 'cause as soon as you are "in a team" your data/account and everything is 'owned' by that team.

I understand, and I honestly thought I did that. I had my own file folder then there was the "Marketing Team" folder that the team only had access to.

Is this serious? This just happened to me and my whole life is unable to be accessed now.

Is there a way to contact DropBox to find my personal account? This can't be true.

Were you a member of a Business team and were you removed from the team? If so, it's true. Only the team admin can help you in this case. Dropbox cannot recover your account. You need to contact the team admin and ask them to restore your account, but they'll only be able to do this if the account was deleted within the last seven days. Once restored, they need to convert your account back to an individual account.

So for clarification, I was removed from a "team" and the message at login I get is... "Your account has been suspended. Please contact your administrator for more information." and can no longer access my personal folder and files.  There is no way for me to recover my personal Dropbox folder, files and account without help from my former team leader?  Do they have access to my personal files?

Hi @Steve93

Basically yes to both. As soon as you joined the Team you agreed in that process that they then owned all of the files and folders on your account - same as if you were using a company work network. From that moment they had access to everything in your account if they so wished.

This is why when you join a team the process almost tries to force you to create a second new account instead to do so.
