Storage Space

Hi Guys,
My local Windows Dropbox is fully synced with my online Dropbox. Windows Explorer file/properties shows my Dropbox folder is 576 MB but to my surprise, dropbox.com and dropbox app both say my dropbox is full. I have checked the plan tab and found my regular file size is 3.4 GB which is not correct. My shared folder only takes less than 100 MB. What is going on here? Why the discrepancy? Any inputs?
Thanks,
Tao
Hi @silviaechevesa, let's jump right into this!
Is it possible that you have any active Backups, and hence your space is showing like that? I'd personally suggest that you follow the steps our Community Manager, Emmet posted here.
Let me know if you need anything else!

That's where it was. Thank you. It's a brand new drive that I never asked to be backed up. I've never asked Dropbox to back up any of my drives, but it was backing up everything. Now can you tell me how to delete my account. I used this for years just fine, and then suddenly early in April it started backing up my computer without being given permission to do so. That is creepy and unwanted.
I have the same problem but after I removed the backup it still uses my disk space.
Hey @EvgF! I hope you’re doing well.
Can you please make sure to check and follow all the steps Emmet has provided here?
If the issue persists after that, please let me know.

I have the same situation since months, we are many, it"s seems that Dropbox don"t want to find the solution.
Hi @Mika2, sorry to hear you're still having issues with this.
Would you like us to send you an email to have a further look internally?

I have removed most of the files from my dropbox but can't find where the space is being alocated from.
removed most file.
removed all the shares I have used for the past 10 years
permantly deleated the files.
trash bin is emtpy.
did most of the removal of files 4 or 5 days ago.
most of the sharaed folders had 0 files. I don't see how to trigger a recount. I am finding 179mb used. when I click on my account it shows I am using 397gb of 12.25gb
I have the same problem and there isn't ANY files anywhere, my account is complete empty but shows 2GB used.
No backups files, no shared files, no nothing.
We can't sync or add anything to our dropbox because it is misreporting used space. As seen from the screenshots below, the actual space used is approximately 300Mb. The storage space being reported by the Dropbox program however is approximately 16Gb. This is clearly wrong.
We have uninstalled and reinstalled Dropbox, restarted the PC, cleaned out all shared folders in the on-line dropbox and permanently deleted items in the deleted folder in the on-line dropbox so that all that is left is 2 folders totalling approximately 300Mb.
One thing bothers me as well, and that is the Windows 10 folder report. Dropbox is highlighted on the LHS and it shows 5 items with 3.9Tb of free space. Maybe the owner of this dropbox took on a trial of a larger capacity and the trial has expired and that is why it is misreporting...
However, this doesn't explain why the actual used space in dropbox and the reporting of it is so whacked.
(Below) - Dropbox program in the PC system tray reporting that 16.3Gb is being used in a Basic Dropbox with the capacity of 2Gb
(Below) - Actual Dropbox folder on PC containing 300Mb of files
Hey @Robert oneill, thanks for reaching out to us.
If you don't have any shared folders, is it possible that you previously enabled our backup feature?
Do you see any backups in your backups page online?
