Why do shared folders get added automatically and take up quota?

Why do shared folders get added automatically and take up quota?

hello everyone,

Can anyone advise on why when i am given access to a shared folder it automatically gets "added" to my dropbox, hence maxing out my storage space?

Any way to change that?

Thank you!

If you've accepted an invitation to a shared folder, you get your own copy of that folder in your account, and anything in your account takes up space.

If you only need to view the files, ask the owner to send you a view-only shared link instead.
