Hi anthoney23, sounds like your plan is to use the Smart Sync function to save space on your local hard drive. That can work, but not as you've described. When you add files to your local dropbox folder, they are uploaded and synced with Dropbox, that's right. To save space on your local disk, you can select each file and folder and make it "online only" by using Smart Sync. What then happens is that the files on your local drive are replaced by something like a small placeholder. You still see each folder, file, its name, size, as if they were on your local drive, but they don't take up any space. When you then delete the "online-only" file, you not only delete the "placeholder" on your hard drive, but also the real big file in the cloud. What you can do: copy your files in 500 GB portions into your Dropbox folder wait until the process of copying is finished make all folders and files "online only" BUT THEN THERE COMES A CRITICAL POINT: Wait until the 500 GB are synced with Dropbox (that will take a long time, depending on your upload speed!!) Because only when everything is synced and uploaded to Dropbox, the Dropbox client will free up space on your local drive. Everything needs to be uploaded first. It cannot be removed before the upload process is finished. In the end, you must not delete the online-only file, because this causes Dropbox to think that you want to delete the file, and it deletes the file in the cloud as well. Cheers, Christian
