Hi, the first time someone shared files with me I was able to download them into my own Dropbox storage to view at my leisure. Now, they have shared more files but I can't download them. It says the function is disabled for all these files. Is that because they have not enabled it at their end? I just need to know if it's something they need to change please. I also cannot print the documents. Is that something they can enable at their end too? Or do I just download and then print once the documents are in my Dropbox storage?75Views0likes5CommentsBww files from a website now saving as a URL file on the iOS app

I have my downloads disabled for a shared link. Whenever I test the link to another email, the download option is still there and able to be used. I just upgraded to the business, and I pay to use this feature on Dropbox, and for it not to be working is very frustrating. I've tried logging out from my Dropbox account, used several browsers, and used different emails, but NONE of them worked. Please advise!Solved128Views0likes7CommentsI need to share a link with a specific user and make sure they can't download its contents.
I wish the Transfer feature had a way to send a viewable link that you can't download. I have some files that I need to send securely ASAP, but I by just sharing one file normally, I can limit downloads, but not the users able to access them. When I try to secure the link with the "Only People Invited" option, they still have download permission if they access through the email invitation. I tried Transfer, but you can't block downloads. It would be great if there was a way to have both: a limited access option where you grant specific people access, that also prevents downloads.Solved186Views0likes7CommentsSaving image to Dropbox in iOS saves as URL
On iOS, when I save an image from Safari to the Dropbox app, before saving, the file name shows as a url file (and saves as a URL). I suspect today’s update causes this, because I was able to do this last night. I long press on an image > share > save to Dropbox At this step, the expanded menu recognizes the file type is an image, vs me mistaking it for an image, where it could be another file type. I’ve closed Safari, Dropbox and turned my phone off and on, issue persists.258Views1like12CommentsUpload versus back-up?
I know the difference between uploading a file and backing up one. But....when I upload a folder from my desktop into Dropbox it is still present on my desktop. The same is true when I backup a folder. This makes me wonder about the difference between the two.Solved156Views0likes8CommentsI'm sharing a file via link, but it forces users to install the Dropbox app.
Been using DropBox for a few years without issue. Now when I share a link … users complain that they can’t access the file and instead get page to download DropBox. For one off file sharing I would not 3d left to be forcing them to install app. Here is sample link [personal information removed per the Community's Guidelines] It brings user to window as in picture attached here: (Can’t seem to be able to add a picture direct) https://flic.kr/p/2qS6nGb137Views0likes10CommentsShared links are being downloaded instead of viewed
For years I mass produced document and use Dropbox to share the links with multiple viewers. Recently, when someone click on a shareable link, they are forced to download the document first. How do I resort back to the old way where a viewer can simply see the document without downloading it? I'm looking for a solution that can be used for all documents produced. In other words, I make hundreds of documents (and shareable links) at one time and can't change each individual document. Thank you in advance!54Views0likes3CommentsHow can I download my Dropbox contents onto an external drive?
I'm really really disappointed with Dropbox over the last several years. I had an enormous issue as did others with preview of images and photos on my laptop which after a multi-year discussion on this forum with dropbox led me to give up and put them on OneDrive (which is much better at preview of thumbnails) so I could continue my family history writing. But I continued to use Dropbox as my backup solution and as needed for sharing. I'm again totally disappointed with the effort to backup my dropbox cloud to an external harddrive. I've read all the posts here and on Reddit about the best way to do this. You have to synch the files to your harddrive on the laptop and then copy them to the harddrive (making it a multi-step process). I think I would live with that if Dropbox worked consistently with making files offline. But I can select a folder and say make the files offline (ie on my laptop). Then when I try to copy those to the harddrive I often get errors. Only some of the files in the folders show up offline. Sometimes I have to repeat the procedure multiple times on a single folder to get the files offline. It is ridiculous that I can't select a dropbox folder and copy it to a hardrive and have dropbox dowload the files either directly to the external hardrive or to my laptop. I consider myself a fairly expert user of Dropbox (10+ years) and used to love it. Now I just tolerate it. PS I tried cloudmount but ran into some issues with that solution too.104Views1like6Comments
