Dropbox Backup
32 TopicsDropbox not syncing to Apple folders (Desktop, Documents, Downloads)
Device MacBook Air M4 Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Sequoia, Tahoe Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 241.4.4853 Dropbox Plan Family Question or Issue My files are on Dropbox online. I now need to download them to my Mac (I've tried this on both a Tahoe and a Sequoia machine). Although the Mac already has Desktop, Documents and Downloads folders, the Dropbox app creates a new parallel set of (virtual) folders under the same names, residing in the Dropbox folder (~/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox. In the past Dropbox used to sync with the existing Apple folders, but that's not been the case since a few OS X/Dropbox versions. It is my understanding that the parallel folders are supposed to be there, but Mac would mirror these, to make it look like they are in the `Apple folders. It makes no difference whether either File Provider and/or Backup is on or off. How do get rid of this double folder issue?85Views0likes2CommentsHow can I back up the same external drive on a new computer?

Hey everyone, I've got 2tb of Dropbox Plus storage and I'm backing up an external SSD. Up until I surpassed 1tb used, I was able to choose the option to "backup every 15 minutes". Yesterday, after downloading a big music sample library and surpassing 1tb, I lost that option and now the most frequent one I can pick is "once a day". Is this normal? Why wouldn't I be able to backup every 15 minutes just because I'm using a certain amount of storage on my acccount? I'm on Mac OS Ventura 13.7.7, 2019 MacBook Pro 16inch. Any help is appreciated, -EthanSolved264Views0likes8Comments"Choose folders" option when backing up an external drive is not working
I want to choose specific folders to back up so I'm not using as much storage space. I found this option for my external hard drive, but when I click the "Choose folders" button nothing happens. There are no other tabs or pop ups that happen when I click it. How do I make use of this feature if the button doesn't do anything?280Views0likes6CommentsHow do I choose a Backup source that isn't one of the generic pre-listed opions?
When I attempt to set up a backup using TaskbarIcon|Profile|Preferences|Backup, then choose "Mange Backups" in the Windows section, all I'm presented with for backup sources are a few generic folders, like "Documents" and "Desktop", which are of no value to me for Backup, because they're being Synced already. I can't for the life of me figure out how to specify the real drive locations that I need backed up. What am I missing?363Views0likes8CommentsCannot completely disable Dropbox Backup for an USB drive.
I plugged in a USB drive and got an annoying prompt about backing it up. I've never used the Dropbox Backup feature and don't want to, especially not for a drive I'm using itself as a backup. I turned off autoplay completely for now in my Windows settings, but I shouldn't have to do that in order not to use Dropbox Backup. The help page for this is out of date and describes a setting that doesn't exist. There appears to be no way whatsoever to disable backups. So, short of nuking Dropbox completely and moving on to something else for cloud storage, how do I disable the annoying backup feature?Solved2.1KViews0likes15CommentsHow do I select specific folders for automatic backup?
This sounds like such a simple thing but I cannot figure out how to choose specific folders to automatically backup. When I get to the backup folder selection menu in the dropbox app I have half a dozen high level choices like "Desktop", "Downloads", and "Videos" to choose from but I don't want to automatically backup any of those, I want to backup specific folders like "C:\cygwin64\home\foo\bar" - how do I tell the app to do that? I'm on a Windows 11 PC.Solved4.4KViews1like6CommentsMy laptop doesn't show up in my connected devices list, even though it's syncing files
Having trouble with dropbox not seeing a device. As in, if you go to settings and then click Security - you scroll down and it shows your device list and the devices that have been removed from list. Details: -- I can have 3 active devices, presently shows only 2 listed -- Have ended all dropbox tasks multiple times, have restarted laptop -- Have quit dropbox in taskbar tray -- Have reinstalled dropbox multiple times -- I know dropbox is working with this particular laptop bc I've created "test" documents and saved them on laptop local dropbox file explorer - which then sync up to online files immediately Because dropbox isn't seeing this laptop, I can't use backups. When I try to created a backup, it shows my old PC as the only option for the backup -- I can't choose my laptop bc it doesn't see it. Any ideas?Solved5.3KViews0likes37Comments
