Dropbox Transfer

As I've written before, I love dropbox – but I hate anytime I have to use it through a browser – for example, to change settings, manage Dropbox Transfers, use Replay, etc. There are so many problems, so many pain points, so many frustrations. If you tested on just three people, I'm sure you would come up with a list of at least 20 things to improve. A few off the top of my head: You cannot batch-delete transfers, forced to delete one-by-one, in a three-click process You cannot change the default expiration date for transfers It's almost impossible to find how to navigate to Dropbox Transfer, Replay, etc. The branding options are 20 years behind Etc, etc It's shocking that a company of your size could last so long with these flaws. Are there only five people working for dropbox?100Views0likes3CommentsReinstate the Dropbox context options on Mac OS
Recently my dropbox app asked me to move all of its folders to "locations" in finder, instead of the simple shortcut folder in "favorites" where it used to be beforehand. I agreed, cause it basically looks more tidy and logical that way – however this also removed the option to right-click any file or folder on my computer and get my favorite dropbox functions. As I understand it from reading this forum – that's expected behavior, I now only get the right-click menu when I'm in the actual dropbox folder. I can see how some of the sub menu options are only necessary when in the dropbox section of finder, but I'm very sad to see that the "share" and "transfer a copy" menu are gone for my other non-dropbox folders in finder. This was an absolute productivity game changer for me, and legit one of my most used dropbox functionalities. It used to be: I want to transfer X file to a client (unrelated to my specific dropbox folders) so I right-click, click transfer and there it is; right in a separate finder window with no browser, no logging in,... Now I have to use the old school wetransfer-like workflow of first going to my browser etc, it's just not really progress I find. So, a heartfelt appeal to reinstate the share and transfer menu on mouse right click – system wide! Thankyou.136Views0likes2CommentsQuitting the transfer window: "Your Files Are Ready To Send" window quits Dropbox on Mac
I think this is new behavior....and maybe, this could be a cause of what some of us are referring to as "quiet crashes" where we notice that the dropbox app is no longer running or showing on the menu bar...on a Mac. When I perform a transfer-a-copy of a file, and it brings up the floating "Transfer" window, and then I complete that process of confirming the file, and then choosing to copy the link, that window will continue to float in front on my mac. Command-W does not close that window. Also, when that window is active, and the front-most window, the computer still indicates that the Finder is the active app on the menubar. Now, I can close that transfer window by clicking on the red "x" button in the upper left of the window, or I can press command-q on my keyboard but THAT QUITS DROPBOX! I think that THIS is potentially what has been problematic of lately. I don't recall this being the behavior in the past. Why is command-q "quitting" the transfer window causing Dropbox App on the menu bar to quit and shutdown? As I said, when the transfer window is active, it does not indicate to the mac that it is part of dorpbox in that it does not populate the options of the mac menu system. The active app is not Dropbox etc. I have been using dropbox for a long time, and I do not recall this being the behavior of closing the transfer window with command-q and it shutting down the whole DropBox system.197Views0likes10CommentsHow can a team admin manage Dropbox Transfer files?
As our company admin I am looking for how to manage our files that are uploaded to Dropbox Transfer Is there a way to see all files uploaded from all members? Is there a way to organize the files, my personal ones just show up as a list? Is there a way to create a location to share files publicly with multiple users having access to add? We don't want to allow for sharing out of individuals storage locations or any of our team folders. Any help is appreciated!126Views0likes4CommentsI don't see the "transfer a copy" option for non-Dropbox files on my Mac computer.
I've mostly been a Windows user, and use a MacBook for on the go. Lately I've been using MacOS a bit more and one thing I am missing from windows, is the ability to send any file (even ones that are not in your Dropbox) via Dropbox Transfer, by right clicking the file and then choosing "Transfer a copy..." or whatever it is on Windows. Is that feature not available on mac? Or is there just something wrong with my finder context menu? Thank youSolved279Views0likes6CommentsView but not store in File Explorer
I think I'm confusing myself...is it possible to install the app so that I can view all of my online Dropbox content within File Explorer without storing it locally? Similarly, if I drop files to Dropbox by way of file explorer, can I set it so that it is only stored online and not on my local machine?622Views0likes1CommentDropbox app uploading in online only outside of the Dropbox folder.
I've used the free Dropbox for a while but just went to a paid version and would also like to use the Dropbox app to make file transfer and organization easier. In my case with most files I want them to be online only in order to save hard drive space. I see that files must be in online only mode via right clicking which is a welcome choice and even better it appears to be the default option when I upload files to the website directly. Awesome so far! However, if I drag files into the Dropbox drive made available by the Dropbox app after they upload they are both existing in that Dropbox folder while also simultaneously in the original location on my hard drive. This isn't a surprise at all, although I was hoping to find some workaround to be able to drag files into the drive and keep them online only while being able to easily organize them so long as I don't download back to my hard drive. I tried to select all and make them all online only and after waiting for them to convert I checked the file size of the root Dropbox folder and it was unchanged. So here I am hoping to find a way to use the Dropbox app to upload files without copying them into that Dropbox folder on my actual hard drive. Can anybody help out please? I did try the manage hard drive space tool accessed from right clicking on the Dropbox drive, but it claims I have no offline files, whereas the folder itself is exactly the same size as the original files it contains despite most of them being uploaded directly to the website without even using the app. I'm confused by that.Solved3.3KViews0likes7Comments
