Please please please can you add a feature that allows folders to be excluded from the Dropbox account (on windows and mac). For sure I'm not the first person to request this, but I'm yet to find a good explanation of why it's not there. A quick google search reveals loads of people also looking for the same feature. I really like the workflow I have with dropbox, but it's getting to the point where I might switch providers in order to allow better selective sync. I've seen hackish solutions using selective sync, but it would be great if this could be done in one of the following ways: - global pattern matching eg "node_modules" - a marker file in the directory like .dropboxignore - a simple right click context menu "Ignore this folder" Other than that, keep up the good work. Cheers. The ability to preserve, view, sort by, etc the original Creation Dates(and other metadata) of files is missing or severely limited in the Dropbox mobile apps. People who donât use Dropbox primarily for business purposes on a computer but, as many of us do these days, use our smartphones as our primary(or only) method of keeping track of media/documents/audio files/etc are having to deal with the frustrating situation of trying and failing to backup/reorganize/download to another mobile device/etc our files without losing this extremely important file metadata. I canât even view ANY file information on non-photo files, and the photos are difficult to even upload with a title that reflects the actual creation date. If not uploaded at a painful 1 image at a time (and many times not even then) the file name will be changed to the upload date/time. The creation date is ALWAYS listed as the upload time or the last time that it was moved, downloaded, re-uploaded, etc. Thereâs no sort by CREATION date, only sort by Modification date which is just a complete denial of basic file management for those of us who manage all of our files on mobile phones and tablets. We desperately need full file information accessibility for Dropbox mobile apps⊠ESPECIALLY the ability to preserve and sort by the ORIGINAL file creation dates⊠and to not lose access to those creation dates when moved, renamed, downloaded, re-uploaded, etc, but to keep them intact despite all modifications. Creation dates and modification dates can be preserved separately without sacrificing one for the other, as long as the filesâ metadata remains intact.6.8KViews22likes26CommentsCan we have an option to add a new folder upon saving a file on the iOS app?
When saving a file or a URL on the DB iPhone app, thx for making it somwhat easier to navigate to when the user wants to save the file. (Though it could be better w options for sort by most recent, alphabetical, etc). But the biggest issue is the user canât create a new folder within the selected folder while still in the save mode. User has to drop the new file loose and then go back and create the new folder and then move the previously dropped file into the newly created folder.5.8KViews6likes17CommentsPause sync until EOD in the app.
Please, an option to pause file sync until the end of the work day (5pm, 6pm, etc) would be amazing. This would help free up bandwidth during working hours and ensure that files are synced and ready to go the following morning. Gratefully, -Ralph315Views2likes4CommentsRemove white spaces in the Dropbox folder for Professional/Business/Team accounts
Dropbox Business/Team/Professional has always the root folder naming scheme: "teamname Dropbox" The whitespace inbetween is messing up python scripts that are stored in the dropbox. This needs to be an option. We cannot change every python script from other sources and sanitize downloaded scripts, just to be able to run it from the cloud sync. PLEASE FIX236Views0likes2CommentsRestore the Linux Dropbox Daemon folder selective sync GUI
That latest update to the Linux Dropbox daemon removed the GUI for allowing users to select which folders to sync. This was confirmed to me by technical support (hence me making this suggestion here, per their recommendation). The CLI still works of course (e.g., dropbox exclude add/remove), but this adds another, odious, step, since one has to first find where those files and folders are on Dropbox via the web browser, then build the correct path and copy that to the CLI. It is very, very inefficient. We have gotten used to and accepted the lack of good Linux functionality on Linux over the years (and certainly not smartsync...) while paying the same price as anyone else, but this new regression really does add a whole new impediment to using Dropbox efficiently, especially for business. Please restore the folder select GUI, at the very least!222Views3likes2CommentsScheduled camera uploads
I would like to schedule my Camera Uploads so that I have a chance to remove/organize things before they're uploaded. Ideally I could have options to set either the time or frequency - i.e. 2am every day, or "any item older than 6 hours." Two examples (on android) today: Sometimes I take 2 or 3 photos in order to choose the best one and delete the others. But even if I delete them quickly, dropbox is too efficient(!) and they've already upload there, where i have to clean them up again. If I take a screenshot and then edit it to add, say pen coverage, it uploads to dropbox as 2 files, even if I save over the original locally. Often I'm annotating an image to text to someone, but don't need it backed up in dropbox at all, so I'd delete it before uoload.217Views1like5CommentsGive us an option to not sync hidden files.
Allow the user to set an option to NOT sync files with hidden attribute. Some applications create lots of hidden files to handle internal processes. These files are important for the current operation of an application, but not for the user via Dropbox. A less useful option would be to allow the user to specify a blacklist of filenames or folder names to not sync. *.tmp or .profile213Views2likes5CommentsManual-sync mode for selected folders
Many users that have large quantity of files in Dropbox complains about the indexing time as Dropbox implements a two-way synchronization that always monitor the selected folders to sync. This issue is currently affecting me as I have 4TB files on my Dropbox and whenever I start the Dropbox app it hangs the explorer on Windows making it unusable until the indexing process is completed. This idea is to introduce a Manual-Sync mode for folders that the user can mark as manual-sync and decide when to download or upload the data from that folder from/to Dropbox so it avoids the constant indexing for folders with huge amount of files. For Example: A music library of 2TB of small files (20-50MB size) can be marked as Manual-Sync with this: - Dropbox client will still show the contents as Online-Only for a folder that exists on the Dropbox server. - The user can decide which folders to upload or download. The option to Upload/Download a manual-synced folder should display in the right-click context menu. - When uploading/downloading a specific folder, the indexing will happen in the scope of that folder reducing the indexing time and the indexing will happen whenever the user wants to sync the folder to upload or download data. - The data in folders set as Manual-Sync is only local and can be deleted without affecting the Dropbox server files. - Folder marked as Manual-Sync will be ignored from the Dropbox regular indexed process as it should only index the folders that are defined by the user to auto-sync (In the same way it works now) This will help to improve the Dropbox client performance and will give more control to the users regarding the folders they want to auto sync as users will be able to just download a large folder to have a local copy without the worries of indexing time and continue using Dropbox for other folders without being taxed by indexing times of folders that are marked as Manual-Sync.206Views2likes4Comments
