Give us an option to not sync hidden files.

Allow the user to set an option to NOT sync files with hidden attribute.

Some applications create lots of hidden files to handle internal processes.  These files are important for the current operation of an application, but not for the user via Dropbox.

A less useful option would be to allow the user to specify a blacklist of filenames or folder names to not sync.

*.tmp

or

.profile

In Backup it will be very convenient: backing up some folders with ./node_modules and ./git inside — would like to exclude those.

Global ignore list combined with settings for particular folder could be very handy.

    Hi  Nancy.  Thanks for responding.

You are correct, ignoring hidden/system files every time.  Not sure what you mean by 'or the files they've been created for'  Anything with an attribute of [x] hidden in the file/folder properties.

A blacklist would also be fantastic. Some applications (such as R) product produce a directory called ".Rproj.user" full of temporary/background files that some might not want to have synced.

I looked at the help center article.   This request is more global.  These types of files are all over, and going to each one to find and  right-click is like Whack-a-mole.

    regards

Hey simpleaddress4390! Thanks for your post.

Do you mean that you’d like to have a way of automatically ignoring those files each time?

Also, do you want to just ignore the hidden files, or the files they’ve been created for, as well?

Finally, please take a look at this Help Center article and let me know if it’d help with what you want to achieve.

    Keep me posted.
