How can I share vCard file so that someone clicking on it can download it?

I have a vCard file (myname.vcf) in dropbox.  I want to link to the vCard in my email signature.  The normal link doesn't seem to work.  How can I link to the vCard so that someone clicking on the link can download the vCard?

Thanks, Jay.  That works for normal files.  But apparently not for vCard files (MyName.vcf).  I am sure this isn't the first time someone has asked this but I couldn't find any previous questions or answers.  There must be a way to link to a vCard in dropbox.

I want to put in my signature the word: "vCard" and have that hyperlinked to the vCard in Dropbox so that if someone clicks on it, the vCard will download to their computer.  If they don't click on it then nothing happens.

The method that Jay mentioned in his first reply will work just fine for any file. There's nothing that prevents it from working for a vCard.

Here's an example of a vCard that works through a share link:

And here's one that that will download directly without going to the Dropbox website first, which uses the second method that Jay mentioned:

Thanks, Rich.  I must be doing something wrong because I am not getting the result you got.

Here are the links that I get:

    Share link:     https://www.dropbox.com/s/w3q5wqtq24p69oi/GaryAminoff.vcf?dl=0

    2nd Method:   https://www.dropbox.com/s/w3q5wqtq24p69oi/GaryAminoff.vcf?dl=1

If you click on either of these links you get this:

    .vcf files can’t be previewed.
    GaryAminoff.vcf · 894 bytes

Let's get this out of the way first... It says Open only for you, because you have the file on your computer and Dropbox knows you don't need to download it (because you already havge it). For everyone else it will say Download.

Here are the links that I get:

    Share link:     https://www.dropbox.com/s/w3q5wqtq24p69oi/GaryAminoff.vcf?dl=0

    2nd Method:   https://www.dropbox.com/s/w3q5wqtq24p69oi/GaryAminoff.vcf?dl=1

The first one we've covered. That leads to the preview page where you'll see an Open button and everyone else will see a Download button.

The second link isn't working because you're entering it wrong. The clickable portion looks correct with the ?dl=1, but if you hover over the link and look at where it actually points to, you'll see that you're still using the ?dl=0 link which just goes to the preview page.

Okay.  Thanks for clearing up the open v. download difference.  I didn't know that.

Secondly, I just changed the zero to a 1 on the second link, but obviously that didn't change the link.  How do I change the actual link to dl=1?

That's something you'll need to determine on your own as every application can handle links differently. You should just be able to paste the link and change the the 0 to a 1. How you do that depends on the application and how it handles links.

    Rich and Jay

Thank you so much.  It is working fine now.  You have been very helpful.  I really appreciate it.
