How to stop a download in progress

DB says it's in the middle of a very large upload, but I want to stop it and zip the files first before uploading.  There is no "stop upload" button that I've seen.  Can you help me stop this?

  • If you're using the website to upload your files, just close your web session boggett2001!

If you're using the desktop app, you can pause the sync and move the unwanted files out of your Dropbox folder.

Let me know how it goes!

But how do I stop iPhone download.  I mistakenly touched 'Make Available Offline', and now Dropbox is downloading 3GB of files onto my phone.   I can't see how to stop it.  I closed Dropbox and also did a full shutdown, it's still downloading when I turn iPhone back on.

Hi there Pamela S.12; thanks for joining the discussion here.

I'm sorry for the late response; are you still having issues with this?

Yes and no.  I was unable to stop the download, so the 3GB of photos downloaded onto my phone, which, thankfully, had enough space to handle it.    I've since deleted the download.

Is there any way on IOS or iPadOS to stop a download once started?

    Hey Pamela S.12!

While there isn't an option to stop the download exactly, while the download is in progress you can select the file/folder, tap the "...", and then choose "Remove from device".

This will stop the download and remove any of the files that were downloaded already.

    Hope this helps!

What a clever solution to remove the app from device during download!  Thanks Daphne!

This doesn't work anymore. Is there an option now that there's no pause button on a Windows machine?

Actually, the pause option should be there after clicking on the app's icon in your system tray M04.

If you're not seeing it, can you send us a screenshot so that we can have a better look into this?

I have read the responses to this question and still having issues. Currently I have the sync paused because it slows my computer way down which interferes with my work.   Thanks for any further direction.

Hey there lpgove; thanks for joining the discussion here.

If you're experiencing high CPU usage when the app is syncing, I'd suggest taking a look at this Help Center article as it outlines most of the reasons why this could happen.
