How to view previews of online-only files on desktop (like how you can in the mobile app)? - macOS
I'm trying to figure out how to see previews, specifically of .jpeg online files, on my mac desktop. I use Dropbox almost exclusively for photo management and it's frustrating not even being able to see a preview so I can figure out which files I need to download locally (I just moved from an old computer that had enough storage to download everything offline to a new computer with much less storage so almost everything is online). I can do this on my android app. All of the online-only files on the mobile app are fully previewable and I can scroll through everything before deciding what to download. Is this possible on the desktop?

- pizzamargherita3 years agoHelpful | Level 6So, the community manager has directed me here since this is a specific topic for macOS. Online only previews for ventura are not working at all. Let's see if a fix shows up soon...
@ last guy, there is no way to quickly discover which is the latest version online (which is weird to me since we can quickly tell which version we are on) but I went through the hassle of uninstalling and reinstalling the whole thing from the web a few days ago, and it's the same version I was on:176.4.5108 - Arnau Ros3 years agoNew member | Level 2

I have the same specs and you and the same problem. I really hope Dropbox fixes this soon but I am not holding out hope! It seems to have been going on for years.

Hello There,
I have the same issue, and despite it's not bothering me too much, It might be a good idea to add an app option for downloading the thumbnails only for preview. It is a little strange actually. I switched from web browser client to the app and it downloaded all the thumbnails of files already existed.
So what's the issue here?
I set up the "online only" option for purpose and I am (and I assume for hundreds of other people too) perfectly fine with it. Downloading the thumbnail data however, would be a good option.
I could switch back to the web browser client but unfortunately something has messed with the upload speed lately through that option. And if I still want to use Dropbox - it is the only solution for me.
Fingers crossed for that thumbnails! - WaterWater3 years agoHelpful | Level 6
Same here 178.4.4811, w/ osx 12.6.1. I'm a creative professional who, without icon preview available, can no longer use dropbox to store my work assests. None of the answers to this question have been satisfying. Can someone recommend an alternative to dropbox, which allow on-line only files to display thumbnails?

This is most disappointing. Its been weeks and still no response from DropBox??!
When are we going to be able to see thumbnails of online images using finder?
