Improvements for the iOS mp3 player in Dropbox.

Hi there,

subscription prices are not that low to be honest so would it be too much to want Dropbox to make the iOs app more "useful" (talking from iPad persepctive)? like MP3s can be played right now, but not in the background, and it would be nice for simple player functions like "play only 1 time", "loop", "shuffle" etc.

Any update here?

Hi Seneca_83, I would recommend that you create a new thread on the Ideas forum, which my colleague Dell_Dropbox suggested earlier, in order for your idea to be heard and voted on by others!

So yeah, when can we expect an internal mp3 player that lets other PDFs/documents be open at the same time? very simple function. thanks

Yes, so the player is fine. No loop for me, not skipping to the next mp3 in the folder, important for me.

Only need a "proper" offline use (sometimes after a while offline files have to be downloaded again, no? hate it when it happens) and the "in picture" mp3 player and i would be happy.

(all other file managers have it but again, why buying another file manager if Dropbox should do the job...and think progressive) thanks

You can control whether Dropbox plays a single file, loops that file, or loops over all the files in the folder you're viewing by tapping the Loop button on the bottom right of the controls for audio playback. It will open a menu with options: "Off" (stop after playing this file), "This file" (repeat this file indefinitely) and "All files" (plays the next file when the current one finishes).

There is no current mechanism to play an audio file while leaving to go to another file, but you can do this with videos by using the Picture-in-Picture button. It would be a good idea to request audio playback while still leaving the preview.

Seneca_83 This is a really good suggestion, I would recommend you start a new thread in the Ideas Forum for dropbox to improve the media player where you can play files and interact with other files in your Dropbox at the same time.

It may seem like you're shouting into the void and things take time to crystalize, but at one time the ability to play mp3s in the background was also an Idea in the same forum. It took a while, but it eventually came to life.

If you decide to create the new Idea thread, please be as thorough as possible explaining what features you'd want the player to have.

Yeah, I would need the "play only 1 time". is it coming?

and also play audio and have a pdf open at the same time? have the newest version for my ipad air.

Hey Seneca_83, thanks for reaching out to our Community!

Keep in mind that we have rolled out background audio to all of our users.

In addition to this I just tested this on my end, and I'm not having any issues playing audio files in the background, or with the phone locked. Also, I can choose for an audio or video file to loop.

You can do this by clicking the gear icon while your file is playing. Can you give it a go?

While you're at it, can you clarify the exact OS you're using, along with the version of the Dropbox app that you're using on your end?

Lastly you're correct that at the moment we don't provide the ability to "play only 1 time" or "shuffle", however I will pass on your comments to the relevant departments so that we can continue to improve.

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!
