iPad is asking for a password, when I try to annotate a .pdf file

Hello!

Every time I export a PDF from Dropbox on iPad and save it straight to the iPad and try to annotate it on iPad, I can’t save, it keeps asking for a password. I never set a password… the original file never had a password either. I’m very confused…

Hey Jonyrainsforth, thanks for joining us on the Dropbox Community!

Would you mind sending us a screenshot of the message you see, when you export the file?

Is it coming from Dropbox or from your device?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Hannah,

    Of course, picture attaached.

    The steps I do is

-find the file on dropbox app

    -Share

    -export file

-save to device files (same for iPhone and iPad)

-annotate and then the screenshot appears

Thanks for the update and the screenshot!

Did someone share this file with you, or is it just a simple non-shared file in a personal folder of yours?

Hey Jonyrainsforth, sorry to jump in, but I believe this is an issue with your device's OS and/or the 3rd party apps you're using to annotate this PDF file of yours.

Are you using a specific 3rd party app or integration to annotate by the way?

A brief search on the internet with the exact error you're getting might be helpful, so give it a try too.

Hi. No 3rd party apps. Standard iOS annotation in iOS pdf viewer.

    Tried googling to no avail

Can you open the files on a desktop device of yours instead of a mobile one Jonyrainsforth

Just make sure that you have the password option unchecked for the file (you can search on an Adobe forum to see how to do this if needed).

Let us know of any updates!
