Right click menu in File Explorer is missing option to open file in browser

There used to be an option to open a file in Dropbox in your browser, but for some reason it's disappeared:

I can copy the Dropbox link and paste it into my browser to view it that way, but it's way less convenient than it was before.

I don't see why this option would have disappeared and am wondering if it's a bug or intended.

I have ran the Dropbox installer to update it, restarted the computer, and made sure that Dropbox in my browser is signed in, but the menu options remain the same.

Hope it’s OK if I chime in, @ChristopherBell! I may have missed it, but did you reinstall the Dropbox app on your computer and the option is still not showing?

Out of curiosity, do you have any other computers with the desktop app installed? Is the option missing from them, too?

Hi there @ChristopherBell - thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Can you please clarify your computer's OS version, and the version and status of the Dropbox desktop app as shown in your system tray?

Also, when did you first notice that this option was missing and what kind of files it's affecting?

Are you not able to open your files by double-clicking on them?

Let us know more and we'll take it from there.

    Hi Walter,

OS version is Windows 10 Enterprise, version 10.0.19045 Build 19045

Status of Dropbox is files are up to date, version is 205.4.5765

I noticed it 2 days ago.

Doesn't matter what the file type is, .JPG, .PNG, .TXT, .DOCX, .XLSX, .PDF, options are all the same, there is no button to open the file in browser.

I am able to open the files just fine by double-clicking, the problem is not opening the files, it's that the option to right click and open the file in my web browser/in the Dropbox browser app is unavailable, where it previously WAS available.

I think the option was something like "open in dropbox.com" or maybe "view file on dropbox.com", something along those lines.

Thanks for the additional information, Christopher - much appreciated.

I just gave it a go on my Windows device as well and I was able to see the "view on Dropbox.com" option normally on my files.

Do you have any 3rd party apps installed on your computer that might be causing issues?

Can you maybe send me a full screenshot of the options you get so that I can have a better visual too?

    Hi Walter,

No, no third party apps come to mind that would interfere with the icon overlays or menu options.

    Here's the screenshot:

I right-clicked a PDF for this one. The options are the same for other file types though.

    Here's my installed apps:

    Hi Nancy,

Thanks for your input. I had run the installer to update the app, but hadn't done a complete uninstall and reinstall.

Uninstalling, restarting my PC and reinstalling has fixed the issue. The option now shows for me.

It's a bit of a pain since everything's needs to re-index but the option's back so it is what it is I guess.
