Windows Explorer hangs for 30 seconds
Application Affected
(Dropbox Basic)
Device
Asus Z170-PRO custom build w/ Intel i7-6700K
Operating System/Browser (if using the web)
Windows 10
Dropbox App Version (if using the app)
(242.4.5815)
Question or Issue
I open Windows Explorer and navigate to the Dropbox folder. When I double-click on a folder in the right panel of Explorer it hangs for 30 seconds. Then the contents are displayed. If I open the folder by using the left navigation bar Explorer does not hang. When I Quit the Dropbox app from the task bar, the hang still occurs. The Dropbox folder is the only one where this hang occurs.
Note: I have two Windows user accounts with two separate Dropbox accounts.

Hi there, CmdrLeForge, welcome to our Community!
Keep in mind that if the issue persists with the Dropbox desktop app completely closed on your computer, then there must be something else causing the lag when you navigate your folders.
Do you happen to have any 3rd party app that could be monitoring, syncing or backing up your files somehow? If so, then I'd suggest temporarily disabling these apps, to check if the behavior remains the same.
Lastly, as a test would you mind creating a new Windows user profile and installing Dropbox there, to see if you have the same issue?
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

I understand your position. I also have iCloud Drive, Google Drive and OneDrive enabled on my computer. I also have Acronis True Image backup system.
I have run the test you suggested. Here are the results:
- This only happens on one user logged on as an administrator. When I start Dropbox for a new user and another administrator the hang does not occur.
- I observe in Task Manager that when I Quit using the taskbar icon, the Dropbox processes exit.
- But when I click on a folder in the C:\Users\<user>\Dropbox folder a Dropbox process is launched and stays running for the duration of the hang.
- This behavior does not occur for user's where the hang doesn't occur.
Why would that Dropbox process be launched? See the attached screenshot.
