Accessing file properties/details on image files stored on Dropbox
Hi,
I'm trying to edit the file properties/details on an image file stored on dropbox to add tags so I can search my collection for specific photo themes. However, some files I can do this but others have the fields greyed out, even though the files have the same green tick on a white background status. I'm the only user accessing the file. Can anyone help please?

Hi Bill007, I'd be more than happy to help!
Are these files part of a shared folder by any chance? Could you send me a few screenshots, in order for me to have visual too?
Keep me posted!

Thanks for your help Megan. It is indeed a shared folder, but I don't think anyone one else has it open at the same time.
Thanks Bill

Hi Bill007, thanks for the update!
Can you go online and check the shared folder's permissions, to see if you have "editing" or "viewing" permissions?

Hi Megan,
I'm the admin on the account so usually have full editing access (where would I go to check this applies to EVERYTHING?). The odd thing is that identical image files within the same folder differ in whether you can edit the "details" - you can see in my last screen shot that some files have tags whilst others don't because I can't access/edit the file "details".
Thanks Bill

Hi Bill007, in any case this seems to be related to how you tag content in your device.
Therefore it would be related to the OS, and how it handles those tags, and files. Are you able to tag the content using our website?

I am astonished by the responses the Dropbox support gives to this question. I believe the person posting simply wants something like a RIGHT CLICK on an image file name and get a properties readout, the way it works in a desktop OS. (I should note that Dropbox's website interface is terrible, and they forget that many people DO NOT use the desktop sync, but use dropbox online on web, specifically to free up local space)

Hi,
I don't believe it relates to the OS system since when I copy the problematic files from the DropBox folder on the hard-drive to another location on the hard-drive it works. Its clearly something to do with the files being WITHIN the Dropbox folder.

Hi Bill007, could you try temporarily quitting the Dropbox desktop application and then edit the tag in Explorer?
In the 'General' tab in Properties, are the files marked as read-only?

Hi,
I am trying this in File Explorer. They're not marked as Read Only & all Permissions for the file are "allowed" (e.g. Full control, Modify, Read & execute, Read, Write).
Thanks Bill

Did quitting the Dropbox desktop application make any difference when it comes to editing the tags?
