All my files deleted, after updating my macOS
Hi there,
I recently upgraded my Mac Operating system, and I have just seen that all my files in my dropbox account have been wiped. I have tried looking in the deleted files section on the browser app and nothing, I also checked and dropbox should have notified me if a large number of files were being deleted this has not happened. I last accessed my files around the end of November and my computer was updated in mid December.
I'm very concerned about this.

Hi Leahmbiot, and welcome to the Community.
In general, updating your OS wouldn’t affect the files in your Dropbox account.
However, can you please send me more details on this? Did you happen to format your hard drive around the middle of December, as well? If yes, did you have the desktop app installed perhaps, and you didn't sign out before formatting?
Have you also checked your Events page, and there’s nothing relevant there?
Finally, I’d like you to clarify what’s your current Dropbox plan, as shown here.
Keep me posted for more updates.

Hi Nancy,
After a sickening half hour my partner remembered he's backed up onto an external HD then deleted all my dropbox files on my computer to free up space for the upgrade. AND BREATHE. What I'm surprised about is that on my events page it just says that I deleted two files and removed shared access to one file. Dropbox didn't notify that this was happening (I'm set up to receive an email if large numbers of files are deleted) and that there is no record of this in my deleted files section.

I’m happy to hear you were able to sort this out!
Did you also check the spam folder of your email address, and you couldn’t find any email about those mass deletions?
Also, did you scroll down a bit further on your Events page, and there’s nothing else mentioned?

Nothing in Spam, and nothing scrolling down...

Sorry to jump in here, Leahmbiot.
Is it possible that you are now on the new Dropbox for macOS on File Provider, that moves your Dropbox folder to ~/Library/CloudStorage?
Perhaps that what happened.
